Is there ANY chance music will be as great as it once was? The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I think there's still enough great music out there,...it just doesn't make it into the charts anymore, but who cares about that anyway. Let those kids think their justin cd is great because it made it to #1 It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

Not a chance in hell. It's too far gone now. There's a whole new generation out there that only knows bullshit. Andy is a four letter word.

Agreed. Music is going downhill now. The only artist that have produced true music of substance have been the old school artist. The younger generation hasn't taken enought time to learn from the past in order to become great and perfect their craft.

what a dumb**** thing to say [Edited 3/23/05 13:24pm] People older than us hated when rock and roll came out because it had rhythm, was fast paced, people could shake ass to it, and they considered it the "devil's music". Then later, they didn't like sexual references in the songs. As technology advanced, instruments started sounding better and our music kept getting faster, funkier, and the lyrics started getting more and more suggestive and sometimes explicit. They really didn't like this. Today's music is getting slower and slower. There's absolutely no rhythm in music anymore. It's too slow to dance and shake ass to. Instruments are being completely stripped from the music and the only thing remaining is a weak, midtempo ass beat with some "talking" over it. That's my problem with it, it's too damn slow. If it gets any slower, we'll being going back to the days of classical music. Music is going backwards instead of forwards. As far as cussing, sexual references, and profanity in today's music, I have absolutely no problem with it. In fact, I wish all the cussing and sex was allowed back when music was good. I prefer cussing and nasty music but dammitt, it's got to be an actual song and not a "poem read over a slow ass, stripped down beat". The reasons I can't stand today's music are totally different than the generation before me. [Edited 3/23/05 13:57pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Come on, y'all! There's still some very, very good music that has come out in the last, say, 10 years? Some of which could even be considered great!
Can anyone tell me that Bitter or Sea Change weren't classic records? Or that Madvillainy isn't as as good or better as any classic hip-hop joints of the last 15 years? What about Jill Scott's albums? Badu's albums? Alicia Keys' albums? D'Angelo? Zero 7's When It Falls? Speakerboxx/The Love Below? De La Soul? Digable Planets? Mos, Com. Talib, Black Star? Jay-Z's Black Album? John Mayer? etc. etc.? Radiohead's Kid A and OK Computer? You don't have to like these artists, I don't like all of them, but these are some other artists making good-to-great music, like Yesterday's New Quintet, Lewis Taylor, etc. The cream rises to the top and history will acquit much of the music of the last several years very, very well.
