PAULINA RUBIO and Latin Music Appreciation

Whether U understand the Music or not, I think we can agree on all of the following. First lets take the Latin Music Video station HTV, basically the latin Version of MTV, well this Station UNLIKE MTV has not given in to the youth and reality culture, it still gives equal time to all artists, plus NO VJ's and stupid reality shows. No bullshit here, almost no commercials either. There is one countdown show which is their TRL, however, its just the top 21 videos, no Carson Daily introducing the videos, or appearances by Fred Durst or Tara Ried. And the even greater thing is that NO ONE gets overplayed, even the most popular video U may see at most 3 times, during 24 hours. And they also dont stick the OLDER artists on at 3 AM like MTV and VH1 do. Another reason I respect the Latin Industry is the celebration of the Older Artists and the loyality towards them. If U look at the American Industry the average age of an artist is about 18-20, in the Latin Industry most of them are late 20's to early 30's. Even with all of the Changes in Music the Older artists still get there time, they are not called "has beens" or recording just for the money. And with new forms of Music in the Latin Industry, like REGGAETON, there is still time for everything and that Industry isnt corrupt like the RAP industry. But dont think that America hasnt tried to corrupt them already, Rappers like 50 cent, and others are already trying to enlist REGGAETON artists like Daddy Yankee and Don Dinero, this way they can cross into the Latin Market, but all of these Rappers have been flatly turned down.

I would like also Praise PAULINA RUBIO probably one of the best in Latin Music today. Paulina has been around since the later 80's and now has her Best CD out called PAU-LATINA. She has just released her 4th single from the record called "MIA", the first 3 singles from this CD all went Number one. Paulinas Last SPANISH CD called PAULINA spawned 6 top 10 singles. PAU-LATINA will also have 6 singles....could she have all 6 go Number 1, to date the PAU-LATINA CD has sold 2 million in AMERICA, and over 6 worldwide, easily her biggest CD.

I've read that Latin radio has the opposite problem of American radio in that it's very hard for new, younger artists to get spins.

There needs to be more outlets for Rock en Español/Latin alternative music. Innovative artists like Aterciopelados, Cafe Tacuba and Juana Molina get virtually no radio airplay. Julieta Venegas finally has some success with her third album after compromising her sound a little to make it sound less alternative and more poppy.

Agree, but artists arent dismissed for their age which is an American Custom it seems. I think in general Latin Artists have it so tough, mainly because they push their own stuff, almost 70 percent dont even the budget to make one video for their album, and when they do make videos they are very cheaply done and its hard to compete. Even the Bigger Artists like Marc Anthony and Paulina, THALIA they all went through this, I mean they have all been around since the Later 1980's struggling and pushing their way to the Iconic status they have know in Latin Music. But even though the Older artists can still hang on to what they have i think there is a good balance. There are newer artists now Like OBIE BERMUDEZ, JUANES, HA-ASH, and some others that are really experiencing great success on their talents, and NOT what they look like and they dont have to strip in their videos, or drink 40's or have money and women all over to sell. Dont get me wrong Im not saying there isnt Sex in the Latin Music Industry, I mean PAULINA alone can set a TV set on fire when her videos are on, but she doesnt THROW it in my face 24/7, shes got the talent to back it up and its not what makes her a success.

I do agree that they need other Radio Outlets too, but things arent as Bad as American Radio which is about to eliminate all forms of Rock Radio, pretty sad.

The reggaeton videos that are constantly played on mun2 are just as bad as American rap videos I think. Lots of half-naked women and other cliches over and over.

I never really got into salsa/merengue. I'm more of a rock guy--Aterciopelados, Icaro Azul, Cafe Tacuba, etc. But I do like boleros. I'm currently looking for a good classic bolero comp.
