so did Madonna, but obviously she's not going to be on there either. and Louis Armstrong was a man wink

Madonna's ties to R&B are arguably as strong if not stronger than Billie's are. But many if not all of those on the list are directly or indirectly influenced by Lady Day.

Louis Armstrong's a MAN? His sultry voice had me fooled, then!

Seriously, the point was jazz singers have influenced pop music as a whole. I cited Satchmo as an example.

yeah, i know. but you understand my point. this is an urban-centric magazine coming up with a pretty short-sighted list of artists they feel changed their rather narrowly-defined version of r&b.

and i agree Billie should be on there, but this seems to be a list for people who don't comprehend exactly how widely r&b reaches in sound and influence. i've met a lot of people out there like that. pretty much anyone under 25, really. a couple of girls i work with LOOOOOVE "r&b", but they don't like Prince... "he's pop." a lot of people into "r&b" don't realize what r&b actually is, and think it has to be either hip-hop lite or a slow-jam seduction ballad, and that's all.

Madonna did change the face of R&B. When her first few singles came out there was no pic of her at all. We were sure she was black and was shocked when we finally saw her. She should be on this list.

Well, there are people she should'nt be ahead of BUT she deserves a higher place than a lot of the broads mentioned. Don't sleep on MeShell no no no!

This is supposed to be a list of women that changed R&B. What did Meshell change? I don't see how she has impacted R&B at all. That's the problem I have with a lot of the people on this list. Just because "they good" doesn't mean they have impacted the genre.
