Happy birthday to the quintessential genius: Innovative, beautiful, and crazier than a soup sandwich.

which is why i say the 'j.d. salinger of funk' - supposedly, salinger's written tons of stories over the years, but he has no intention of ever seeing them published. i wonder, in both cases, if it's true or if it's legend?

If it's not for the public...how do u know he's making music?

In the Letterman interview (1984) he said his mother told him to make music again..that he had a gift and he should share it.

So is this another reason why Prince keeps the vault stuff to himself? To be like Sly?

Nah, there are plenty of artists that have huge vaults of unreleased stuff. Well maybe not plenty but at least a few more than prince, and many of these artists at least release SOMETHING regularly. Damnit, I want SLY. The man's 61 what is he waiting for

the Industry couldnt handle a sly comeback now.. nowawdays in the business labels only care about what they want instead of what they NEED, i dont think the labelheads today could handle sly.the cat's way ahead of his time music wise. he's waitin for shit to calm down and BOOM he'll come out with somethin.

I'm not so sure Sly could handle the industry that is Babylon either. Maybe it's good he's staying away, maybe that's what keeps him alive, regardless of our selfish wants.

And yes, doubters. Sly still does create music for himself, so far.
