Like I said, not a fan, but I've always loved his stage name and why he chose it.

Cool that you grasp that, even though you're not a fan. His music isn't eveyone's cuppa tea, and he's really an aquired taste. Still, way too many people just want to dismiss him without really examining his work. I totally respect that you have done so.

Some people think they're more musically sophisticated if they bash Manson.

I think its because they don't get how much of it is very tongue-in-cheek on his part. They look at the surface and make assumptions. I admit I was somewhat put off by his theatrics at first, but I still didn't make the assumption that he was nothing more than a throwback to 80s satanic metal (which is what so many do).

It was actually interviews with the man that made me see how intelligent he was. After listening to Anti-Christ Superstar and reading his lyrics, I was intrigued. When he released Mechanical Animals, I was a total fan. The whole ironic spin on that album, coupled with a sound completely different from Anti-Christ sold me. I can totally see how he wouldn't really interest everybody, but I don't see that as reason for people to assume he is talentless.

The only thing that Manson ever said that really made me cringe was when he screamed out "Fuck safe sex!" in the GG&G tour video, and the crowd cheered.

Fitting! From the track "Vodevil":

Genuine curiosity here. What are the characteristics of a "good pit"?

Yeah. It's on the Guns, God, and Government Tour before he performs "The Fight Song", amongst a whole lot of other obsceneties. That DVD is so awesome! headbang

A good pit is one where people are full of energy and into the scene, but not kicking and punching others cuz they think they're tough guys. Moshing is fun and great exercise, but a boring crowd and knuckle heads can ruin it.

Don't know about Manson musically, I've seen a festival concert on TV once and his voice seemed weak.
Anyway, I just get a kick out of people who get fooled by him. Especially those radically religious people doing demos and blaming him for whatever just happened. I guess he's like "yes, thank you, that's EXACTLY what I meant".

Personally, I'm kind of sceptical about anything/anyone that tries to shock. You know, it's good when it shocks, but it's mostly cheap when it's supposed to shock.

headbang They want to sell it out
But it up
Dumb it down
A good God is hard to find
I’ll join the crowd that
Wants to see me dead
Right now I feel I belong
For the first time

Multiply your death
Divide by sex
Add up the violence and
What do you get?
We are all just stars and we’re waiting
We are all just scarred and we’re hating
We are all just stars on your burning flag

You can point your gun at me
And hope it will go away
If God was alive,
He would hate you anyway

My right wing is flapping
The left one is gray
Let’s hear it for the kids but
Nothing they say
They gyrate and g-rate
On election day
We got out abc’s and our f u c k

Multiply your death
Divide by sex
Add up the violence and
What do you get?
We are all just stars and we’re waiting
We are all just scarred and we’re hating
We are all just stars on your burning flag

You can point your gun at me
And hope it will go away
But if God was alive,
He would hate you anyway

She’s made of hair and bone and little teeth
And things I cannot speak
She comes on like a crippled plaything
Spine is just a string
I wrapped our love in all this foil
Silver-tight like spider legs
I never wanted it to ever spoil
But flies will always lay their eggs

Take your hatred out on me
Make your victim my head
You never ever believed in me
I am your tourniquet

Prosthetic synthesis with butterfly
Sealed up with virgin stitch
If it hurts, just tell me
Preserve the innocence
I never wanted it to end this way
But flies will lay their eggs

Take your hatred out on me
Make your victim my head
You never ever believed in me
I am your tourniquet

don't like the drugs but the drugs like me
I don't like the drugs, the drugs the drugs
Norm life baby:
We're white and oh so hetero and
Our sex is missionary.
Norm life baby:
We're quitters and we're sober
Our confessions will be televised.
You and I are underdosed and we're ready to fall
Raised to be stupid, taught to be nothing at all.
I don't like the drugs but the drugs like me
I don't like the drugs, the drugs the drugs
I don't like the drugs but the drugs like me
I don't like the drugs, the drugs the drugs
Norm life baby:
God is white and unforgiving
We're piss tested and we're praying.
Norm life baby:
I'm just a sample of a soul
Made to look just like a human being.
Norm life baby:
We're rehabbed and we're ready
For our 15 minutes of shame.
Norm life baby:
We're talkshown and we're pointing
Just like christians at a suicide.
There's a hole in our soul that we fill with dope
And we're feeling fine.
I don't like the drugs but the drugs like me
I don't like the drugs, the drugs the drugs
