AHA almost complete with New CD Here some words from their Official Website, but basically they are recording here in NYC and in Europe and Oslo, so far they have 20-30 tracks. Read on..
a-ha in the studio New album scheduled to be released this year Morten, Magne and Paul have been recording a lot of new songs for the forthcoming album. All three of them are contributing to the songwriting, and they seem to have at least 20 - 30 songs to pick from so far. The development process has taken place in London, New York and Oslo. The guys are spending time together in the studio for the first time in a while, trying out different ideas, adding and removing different instruments, to see what suits the specific song. Some songs that start out as ballads might end up as a rock 'n' roll number. "This sounds a bit like a U2 Christmas Carol," Magne says about one take. So they change it. They work almost surprisingly well together, and seem to have a lot of fun in the studio. The mood is relaxed and everybody seems very inspired. a-ha are yet in the process of deciding which producer(s) they will use, but Martin Terefe, who produced Magne's solo album Past Perfect Future Tense, has been involved in the recording sessions this far. http://www.a-ha.com/getfi...00x235.jpg http://www.a-ha.com/getfi...30x173.jpg 2005-03-08 [Edited 3/10/05 16:26pm] "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

They have been fine everywhere but here. People in the USA think they are 1 hit wonders. But in Europe they have sold close to 30 million albums worldwide, have charted 35 singles, 20 of which were top 10 in Europe. So I guess U can say they are doing fine, plus they have signed a deal here in the USA with Universal for 3 albums. AHA is now a more acoustic, singer songwriter type band, the Keyboards were gone in 1988. They need to make sure they stick with one producer with this album. The last album suffered for not doing so. .

Yeah I understand what you are saying. I loved the Last record, I thought the song LIFELINES was one of the best they had done, but a few tracks on that CD shouldnt have made the cut. The thing with AHA is that they almost never record together, so its almost like 3 solo artists doing their own thing, very similar to the way QUEEN worked late in their career, obviously the Beatles did the same. I think AHA is going to go with the Vibe that MINOR EARTH had, but I think it will have a harder edge. Not that they will be "hard rock" because that atttempt backfired on them when they did MEMORIAL BEACH and went for a rockier sound on tracks and DAVID Z's production wasnt that good with them at all. Though this record has some fine tracks I seldom listen to the CD. Heres my AHA reviews Hunting High and Low 1985 *** Scoundrel Days 1986 **** Stay on these Roads 1988 *** East of the Sun West of the moon 1990 ***** Headlines and Deadlines BEST OF AHA 1991 ***** Memorial Beach 1993 ** Minor Earth Major Sky 2000 ***** Lifelines 2002 **** How Can I sleep with your voice in my head (LIVE) ***** AHA best of 1984-2004 2004 ***** My top 10 AHA tracks (not in order) Stay on these Roads (live) Nonstop July Sycamore Leaves Velvet Mary Ellen made the moment count Scoundrel Days Lifelines Solace Afternoon High Angel "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I thought Lifelines and You wanted more were classics. The rest were good, but not a patch on the Minor Earth Songs.
