Lyn Collins Dies At 56-Sorry If This Is A Repost! From another board:
Singer Lyn Collins Dies at 56 LOS ANGELES - Lyn Collins, whose funky vocals landed her a spot in James Brown's stage show and the nickname "Female Preacher", died of cardiac arrythmia Sunday, said her son. She was 56. Collins, whose voice also was sampled in the 1980s hip-hop hit "It Takes Two", died Sunday night at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, her son Bobby Jackson said Monday. Collins, who lived in Abilene, Texas, was visiting the Los Angeles area after having returned from a tour in Europe last month. She was due to start touring again next month. Collins started up singing as a teenager. At 14, she married a man who worked as a local promoter for the James Brown Revue. Brown heard Collins sing and in 1970 she was invited to join his traveling show. Her powerful voice led Brown to nickname her the "Female Preacher" and two years later, she cut her first solo album, "Think (About It)". In 1975, Collins released "Check Me Out If You Don't Know Me By Now". Over the years, Collins' songs have also appeared in various compilations, but it was hip-hop duo Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock who exposed Collins' work to a new generation when they sampled one of her songs for their 1988 hit "It Takes Two". Since then, other contemporary R&B and rap artists have also mined Collins' songs, including rapper Ludacris.

awww man I saw Lyn @ Paisley Park three years ago, during the celebration, she came out and surprised everyone with Think About it. I didn't know she was so young. The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.

I last saw her with Patra years ago on her remake of "Think (about it)" she even appeared in the video...may her soul rest peacefully. I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back. I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there. I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish. And I am

Think (About It) is a groove classic in my book.
I hope that Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock and Patra are thankful for that tune. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Thanks for posting this, I was going to if no-one else had.
Martha and Lyn were just touring in Europe together not even a month ago so it makes it even sadder that there was a kind of comeback happening for her, A great voice, a great performer, a lovely lady... Another legend gone, wish we could honour these people more in their lifetimes. Yeah prayers and love to all her people.

I wasn't familiar with her music at all until today. KBLX played Think(About It) twice in an hour this morning. I played a couple more songs on Musicmatch and came across "James Brown's Original Funky Divas." I ordered the 2 cd set through Amazon, and the funky first ladies include Bea Ford, Yvonne Fair, Vicki Anderson, Kay Robinson, Shirley Jean & The Relations, Sugar Pie DeSanto, and Tammy Montgomery a.k.a. Tammi Terrell. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
