JAYHAWKS dis-band

Probably one of the greatest "Unheard" "Unrecognized" bands has called it a day. Currently Gary Louris and Marc Olsen are on tour together, these are two original members, but its a one-off tour, it recently played NYC for 3 sold out shows of which i caught two. Not knowing the Jayhawks were calling it quits I kind of had the feeling that it was over. Gary had been leading the band since Marc olsens leaving. The band although critically successful couldnt get a label to showcase them. They basically jumped around from Sony and to Universal for 2002's amazming RAINY DAY MUSIC. Perhaps my favorite was the Bands SOUND OF LIES back in 1997, perhaps one of the greatest records ever in my opinion and easily one of the best of the 90's. This announcement came to me today from a mail flyer from Universal about their artists. Next to PRINCE the JAYHAWKS are about the Best thing to come out of Minnie.

I really loved Hollywood Town Hall, but I never really followed them after that. I don't know why, cuz I love that style of music - gram parsons-inflected roots-rock that's not too polite. Every time I play that album, I tell myself "yeah, gotta pick up Tomorrow the Green Grass one of these days." Then I place the album back on the shelf and totally forget about how great it is until the next time it gets played.
