Lionel Richies music is awsome. Im proud to say that mayne. Hes made endless streams of classic and he's one of the best song writters in recent years. All his songs in his commodores years are classic and he's made wonfderfull songs in his solo career. I bought Lionel Richie and the commodores definitive collection recently and there was only TWO bad songs on there as far as i was concerned and they were the two Dance experiment singles fromhis renacance album. Seriously, lionel should be up there with the greats and if anyone disagrees, songs like 'Hello' are all youv probabley heard from that guy.

Lionel Ritchie is one of the singers that makes me wanna vomit whenever i hear one of his shit.
Mind you back in the days with the Commodores he was Ok(but he wasn't alone, probably that's why).
Since then he became a sort of black Elton John with his ballads,Too shmaltzy.
He belongs to that category of singers along with Michael Bolton, Rod Steward, Babyface, Keith Sweat that understand that in order to make money, let's make the same(romantic) song over & over & over...

In a nutshell: CRAP!!!!!

Yeah,Lionel sold-out in the mid-80s,but I'll give him a pass because of the wonderful stuff he did in the early 80s...

"Stuck On You" (1983)
"Love Will Find A Way" (1983)
"You Are" (1982)
"Round And Round"(1982)
"You Mean More To Me" (1982)

"Stuck On You" is his finest solo single, imo. music

Lionel's solo work is nothing compared to his work with The Commodores but I can deal with some of it.
Andy is a four letter word.

Rod Stewart wasn't always in that category. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he made some rocking stuff. It wasn't until the late 1980s that he became dead like the others you mentioned.

I know but that's the same case for Lionel Ritchie. BUT back then Rod Steward was part of band The Small Faces and probably decided that his music although decent (and some jewels as well) didn't get him enough money.
He decided to take the sell-out path( harsh but true)

Thats totaly unfair mayne. Songs like "Zoom" and "Flying High" in his commodores days were FIRE along with all of their other shit. How you display hate on a guy that gave us that shit? And his solo stuff, yeah he switched up his flow but the songs were still good, far from crap.

"Stuck On You" (1983)
"Love Will Find A Way" (1983)
"You Are" (1982)
"Round And Round"(1982)

Exactly mayne, and in the ninties "Destiny" was a great song for him, you cant be knockin that man. As for the 00's, he been quietish but his song Tender Heart was nice i thought. Nothing groundbreaking, and probabley 4 those that like conventional love songs, but i liked the shit, cause it was cool hearing Lionel sing that shit.
