House Music for a newbie

So I am looking to get into house music. I am so sick and tired of just about everything else that is out there. I'd like some of you Orgers to recommend some good cd's for a gal who wants to start a house collection.

My favorite is a compilation that I bought waaaaay back in the late 1980s. It's one of the first house music compilations. It's called "Best Of House Music" and it is on Profile Records.

Here are the tracks:

You Used To Hold Me - Ralph Rosario featuring Xavier Gold
I Can't Get Enough - Liz Torres featuring Edward Crosby
Just Another Man - Jeanne Harris
7 Ways - Hercules
Fantasize Me - Pleasure Pump
Fun With Bad Boys - Screamin' Rachael
Move Your Body (The House Music Anthem) - Marshall Jefferson
Let's Work It Out - Exit
Jack Your Body - J.M. Silk
Do It Properly - 2 Puerto Ricans, A Blackman, And A Dominican
Shut Up - Moonfu
Carino - T-Coy

Also, you must check out anything that features Martha Wash.

It's really hard to explain. I think of house music as a modern reincarnation of disco.

not to be a stick in the mud, but even if you find all of the great house tracks in history ( and the odds are stacked against you, sadly as most of them are waaaaay out of print, and lots and lots of underground stuff)...you'll probably never be able to recapture the total feeling of euphoria when we were able to feel when you would hear these infectious songs banged out from some huge ass 10-feet tall speakers in dirty ole warehouse setting...people just getting their drink and smoke on and partying til 5, 6, 7 am (several times i went to the club before midnight and came home just in time for saturday cartoons)...it's kinda like when people describe Woodstock, or Studio 54..if you weren't there, there's nothing that can compare.
(but good luck anywhoo wink smile )
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

God knows that is true.. I have been lucky enough to be treated to some nice spots in the City in my younger days. So i have some sweet memories when it comes to the whole vibe of it. i was so stupid not to get a collection of the music then. I guess I was too busy tryin to get some ass...aaaaah those were the days LOL

Hey Nammie,

I'm a big big househead. Everyone on this thread to my utter surprise gave you some good advice on what to get. There is so much good house music out there. I was telling SUPA that it's hard to meet people that like the same kind of house music. Techno, Downtempo, Deep, Garage, UK Garage, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Gospel. I personally like deep, not too deep, and lots of vocals. There are a lot of great web sites where you can listen to full sets of great house music. Check out GARAGEHOUSEMUSIC.COM

"It's all Jesus....." & "I'm giving you something with Jazz to move your body, shake your body...."(current faves)
