Shalamar....up and down career, with a nice kickstart when they brought in Fine and Sexy Jodi Whatley!! drool

Hmm. Chic, Shalamar and Sister Sledge. They all hit their peak in the late 70s/early 80s which was before my time as well. I can only tell you about later period Shalamar when I bought two of their albums: 'Heart Break' (Howard Hewitt's last album) and 'Circumstantial Evidence' which featured a new lineup produced by Babyface and Bernadette Cooper. Stay away from those. They are not good representations of the band.

wow chic, Shalamar and sister sledge..

well lets start off with Chic

the 1st single released on Buddah "dance, dance, dance ( Yowsah Yowsah yowsah) was a huge dancefloor staple in 1976 and before anyone questions me yes it was on Buddah 1st then Atlantic

Bernard Edwards and Nile rogers were the force behind chic and Mr Tony Thompson on Drums classic sound

Shalamar.. was the doscovery of Dick Griffey and don cornelious composed of 2 soul train dancers "Jefferey daniel and Jody watley" the 1st single on Soul train in 1976 called Uptown festival was thier debut single. which was a medley of old Motown Hits.

Sister sledge ahh yes... how can we not forget "Love dont go through changes on me"from 1973.. the girls grew up from Atco records and went to thier sub Cotillion later on and ironically the Chic orginization produced thier entuire debut on Cotillion in 1978.

Chic. Anything from them, but their best album, to me, is C'est Chic from 78.
"I Want Your Love" is exquisite. Not a fan of Shalamar. Sister Sledge was produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic. They wrote and played all of Sister Sledge's best stuff."He's The Greatest Dancer" is another gem.

the granddaddy of all rap records Rapper's Delight, uses basically the instrumental version of Chic's Good Times as the backing track..other favorite jams were, Le Freak (Freak Out), and chic Cheer

1. Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)
2. Everybody Dance
3. Le Freak
4. I Want Your Love
5. Good Times
6. My Forbidden
7. What About Me L
8. My Feet Keep Dancing
9. Rebels Are We

Shalamar straddled that line of good poppish danceable R&B with nice smoove slow jams..don't buy anything after Jeffrey Daniels and Jody Watley left, except maybe the singles Dancing in the Sheets from the Footloose soundtrack, My Girl Loves Me, and Dead Giveaway

1. Uptown Festival, Pt. 1
2. Take That to the Bank
3. Second Time Around
4. I Owe You One
5. Make That Move
6. This Is for the Lover in You
7. Somewhere There's a Love
8. Sweeter as the Days Go By
9. Night to Remember
10. I Can Make You Feel Good
11. Dead Giveaway
12. Over and Over
13. You Can Count on Me
14. Dancing in the Sheets

as for Sister Sledge, He's the Greatest Dancer was vintage Chic-produced music. also they did the original version of All the Man I Need (as a duet), that Whitney Houston redid as a hit.

Chic had some of the funkiest cuts ever. Le Freak is funk on top of funk, even the strings are funky on that one. They even made Diana Ross funky on Upside Down.

not to mention the great classic I'm Coming Out...the first minute of that song id funk 101 (this song was sampled liberally of Notorious B.I.G.'s Mo Money, Mo Problems, resung by Kelly Price)
