Joni Mitchell's Little Green, which she wrote about the daughter she gave up for adoption. Beautiful introspective lyrics.

I never knew this about her. Why'd she do it?

Because she did not feel she could give the child all the attention it deserved. I think she tried for a while though, but I am not sure...

She was very candid in the documentary (forgot the name) in which she said she was totally not fit to be a mother and that she was way too deep into her music.

Madonna: Intervention~ written for her son Rocco

Is that about him or Guy? I always got the impression that it was about her marriage, especially with lyrics like "sometimes it's such a pleasure, sometimes I want to tear it all down". She would NEVER say something like that about her own child.

I read it was about Rocco. But whatever, it's still a personal song

I think "I Wanna Be Your Lover", "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad", and "Bambi", are about Patrice Rushen.

Was Purple Rain definitely about Susannah?

If not, it's The Beautiful Ones for sure.

According to the D.M.S.R. book Prince was singing to Susannah from Purple Rain through Sign 'O The Times.

I hope it does not ruin the song for you. To me it was an eye opener, sure, but it made the song so much stronger in my eyes. The song is all about loss, but about being sure about making the right decision...

Then again, Blue is so firmly branded on my soul that I could not care what the song is about. I love it whatever.

"The Love We Make" -- Prince (in response to Jonathan Melvoin's death)
"Song About" -- Wendy & Lisa (about Prince from Susannah's perspective)

"Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)", "Woman" and "You Are Here" by John Lennon

"Stranger In Moscow" by Michael Jackson, not written 'to' anyone but it's certainly personal

"The Beautiful Ones" by Prince

That is true. She is a personality that is too weird for some to take in. She is probably one of the few persons that could be tagged 'free child'. She lived/lives for her art, if it is music or painting.

To me, finding out more stuff about singers than they reveal in their lyrics is somehow always a bit voyeuristic. I don't like it, unless it explains certain things.

The way I described what the lyric is about does not do Joni justice though. At that time I am sure it was the right decision for both her and her daughter. I think it speaks of wisdom to know if you are capable of being a parent or not. I do not know much about her decision to give this baby up beyond what is said in the documentary. It is pretty brief, matter of fact, without too much drama. It just is presented as a way to pinpoint some of the underlying emotions of the Blue album.
It also showed her on one of her visits to her daughter, who she is in contact with.

To me, knowing this fact about Little Green, only made me love Joni's lyrics more and her unbelievable talent to put her emotions into words.

heart Joni

Yep. His son Karac died during the '77 U.S. Tour (which they ended abruptly) from a stomach virus. sad He was never the same again after that happened. He also has a daughter named Carmen that was born around '68 or '69 I believe.

And wait! I forgot Logan! doh! He has a son named Logan that is around 25 or so. He is also a singer with a band, but doesn't really make it known that Robert Plant is his father. He is beautiful. Spitting image of Robert, although with dark hair, and darker skin. nod

Intervention was used as the Bridge on Mother and Father in the RIT tour because it was about Rocco and was going to close up the section about her family. Orginally they were working on putting Take A Bow as the bridge for Mother and Father

Jermaine Jackson - "Word To The Badd" - About his feelings (at the time) about MJ, though now he denies it.

James Taylor - "That's Why I'm Here" - A short ditty to his fans... very cool song.

James Taylor - "Fire & Rain" - About his friend Suzanne, who died in an airplane wreck.
