well you know sometimes the poeple in the world who make mistakes and don't always do the right things need something to hold on to... Fanatsia made some mistakes, but she focused herself enough to win American Idol..if you don't think that was easy to do, ask the other 100,000 people who didn't win. some of ya'll need some reality juice about the real world...it's climbing the charts so apparently it's resonating with some sector of america
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

well there must be a lot of folx who are not apart of the "real world" who do not have to succumb to the life of a babymomma...and yes, these are young ladies who come from the hood and had to put up with the same mess future babymommas had to deal with, but they made a choice.

...and please don't make American Idol an example of some kind of "Promised Land" where only the strong survive...I've heard that in music industry circles, nobody takes AI winners seriously -- that's why Kelly Clarkson is desperately trying to let go of her AI past.

also, there's a lot of bs that can "climb the charts" so that doesn't legitimize a song's success in my book...

"it's too many black women that can say they mothers, but can't say that they wives..."

"retrospect for life"
"I got my technique down and everything, I don't be tickling or nothin'."

Much respect for you Rhondab. By referring to yourself as a single mother (as opposed to baby mama wtf) it's evident that you have total respect for yourself! I would never allow anyone to refer to me as my baby mama.

Thanks girly! Its just silly and its takes away from the importance of motherhood and fatherhood. When I think of "baby mama" I think of DRAMA..not responsible parenting

I like this song. There's a lot of baby mama's out there struggling to make it. Sure the alternative would be preferable but what-ifs are irrelevent when you're already out there trying to survive. I'm starting to love Fantasia. She absolutely stole that abomination known as the American Music Awards.

clapping They ought to write a song about not getting pregnant, one about how the chick used birth control, how a chick said no to a guy, any damn thing else. If they want to really get real, write a damn song about all the chicks who use their kids as a tool because the child's father doesn't want to have anything to do with them.

Precisely.

Or,somebody could write a song about "BM's" who use their child as a pawn against a the father who DOES want to be involved in the child's life.

I AM SOOOOO SICK OF THE OMNI-PRESENT MYTH THAT IF YOU ARE A SINGLE DAD, YOU'RE NOT DOING YOUR THING.

I have a three year old son whom I would kill and die for, but for reasons beyond my control, the mother gets all the props for his rearing. FUCK THAT. Alot of chicks are getting pregnant on purpose with the goal of keeping said father in their pockets. FUCK THAT. I'll write the damn song.

You know what? I love this song.

I know the term "baby mama" usually has negative connotations and is offensive to some people, but I can overlook that part given how much I love the rest of the song and its emotional impact on me. Yeah, I kind of wish she hadn't used the term, but on the other hand, I can dig the whole reclaiming-words vibe of it. We're called baby mamas anyway, there's nothing really wrong in being proud and spinning it into a positive thing.

I'm a single mother, and the first time I heard this song on the radio, I cried. I couldn't help it. It was right where she sings, "and I think there should be a holiday for single mothers trying to make a way. But until then, here is your song." It just hit me so hard. I love my girls to death, and this is our life: I don't complain about it or regret a thing. But there was just something about us being recognized over the radio by a fellow single mother who's been there... I can't explain it. I drove right to the record store and paid full price for Fantasia's CD on the spot.

My sentiments exactly!!!

Sure as a true funkateer the music is corny, but the lyrics is sure-nuff real, and it's that that I can relate to. I had to ask my wife[30 years old] who's that song by[I never watched American Idol] then she told me, I said "Who?" This young artist needs a band to really to this song justice!

I think the point is that you have to see and feel where a person is coming from even though you yourself are not in that situation. I believe this is what the apostle Paul meant when he said "And so to the jews I became a jew, that I might gain jews". You see FunkMistress, sometimes to help a person out of the mire that they are in, we momentarly have to step in the mire to pull them out. Feel me?

I think I would have liked the song better if she said something like "they call us baby mama's but motherhood is a serious matter to us"...or something....

I think I just have a negative attitude about how I view the term "baby mama".

I get the song...but I think we need to kill the terminology.

The terminology is "ghetto" (let's retire that one too) but I feel that she was turning a negative into a positive. We all know what she means. It's just a catchier title for a song. The alternative: "Single Moms"?

My bad. I read your post wrong. Plus I got myself all worked up thinkin' about my situation. Also, I mean no disrespect to ANY single parent, male or female. It's just been my experience that some folks just don't deserve to have children.
