Duran Duran in Houston!!! 2/20/05

Had the pleasure of seeing Duran Duran once again last night! Fantastic show!!

Here's a quick run-down of the set list for Houston:

SUNRISE

Energetic kickoff had everyone singing, even those folks who had never heard the song!

HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF

As always, they cranked out this old chestnut with their passionate vigor. Hard to do when you've been playing the same song forever!

HOLD BACK THE RAIN

omfg Friggin' fantastic! Never thought I'd get to see this live!

UNION OF THE SNAKE

Man, I've always thought this was one of the best tracks from 7&TRT, and I was sooooo glad to see them do this. It was fantastic live

ASTRONAUT

Great live! The song held its own amongst the older material.

COME UNDONE

Well done, albeit a bit draggy in spots (frequently happens with this tune, I'm afraid. Its not a lively number by nature).

I DON’T WANT YOUR LOVE

A hard rocking, kick ass arrangement of a song I never thought I'd hear them play live again! My only complaint is that they only performed the chorus and the bridge. They should flesh this out into the complete tune. A highlight of the night.

CHAINS

I enjoyed this number immensley, but I think they started to lose the casual fans on this one. Lots of folks going to get drinks and shit.

WHAT HAPPENS TOMORROW

They regained their momentum with this one. The trippy starfield visuals added a great ambience to the song

PLANET EARTH

Doesn't this song always kick ass?? This show was no exception.

TIGER TIGER

Another tune I never thought I'd get the pleasure of witnessing live! Simply beautiful!

NIGHTBOAT

Virtually identical to the performance they did of this back in '03. Still, I love this song, so I'm not complaining.

ORDINARY WORLD
SAVE A PRAYER

Simon made a comment about how few lighters there were in the audience, and just how much that shows that times have changed. Fantastic arrangements.

NICE

Oh this was so friggin' great! The giant flowers in the background gave it a "summer of love" feel.

NOTORIOUS

The boys at their funkiest! I never get tired of hearing them play this one live.

REFLEX

Personally, I'm pretty tired of this tune, but oh well. Still, it was performed well.

CARELESS MEMORIES

Oh hell yeah! Probably my favorite moment of the night! The anime of the boys fighting Yakuza fighters, giant reptiles and flying saucers was a blast!

WILD BOYS

They proved they still are! The whole auditorium vibrated with Nick's synth lines!

Encore:

WHITE LINES

Another number that they rocked so hard! To anyone who doubts these guys as musicians, you've never seen them perform this song live.

GIRLS ON FILM

Quite possibly my favorite performance I've ever seen them do of this song! Sooooo good!

RIO

99% of the time, the boys close their North American shows with this song. Its a perfect show closer that had everyone up dancing and singing!

All in all, one helluva show!!

Great review! I'm looking forward to hearing The Reflex. I have yet to hear that one live, and hopefully Tiger Tiger will be played when I see them on March 2nd. It's coming quickly.
