I used to wear fake glasses. This was maybe thirteen years ago. My job was a little stuffy and I couldn't wear earrings to the office, but still wanted some sort of accessory for my face so I started wearing fake glasses. After a few months I grew tired of them and ditched them. I really wanted just frames with no lenses like Madonna used to wear, but that would have been a little too strange.

See I have had to wear glasses since I was little. I SO wish they could have been a fashion statement.

You have no idea what it's like to get these things kicked off my head at a Nitzer Ebb Concert and being on all fours in a mosh pit trying to locate and pluck them off the floor before they got destroyed and I went into bankrupcy as I couldn't afford to get them replaced.

See.

And the funny thing about my story is my friend KNEW the story, yet decided to wear her new 300 dollar pair of glasses when we saw them on their last tour. Got kicked off her head and landed somewhere in the pit.

That woman sould give me 5 bucks whenever stuff like that happens...I'd be a rich fool by now.

1. What was the first Cure album you purchased or were given, and what was the year? The Head On The Door--perhaps the year after it was released in 1986

2. What was the first video you remember seeing, and which one is your favorite to date? "The Caterpillar" was the first. A lot of their videos are pretty cool thanks to Tim Pope, but none really stand out apart from the rest to me. I liked the cramped look of the first "Close To Me" video. And "The Lovecats" video is just plain funny. It's probably one of those.

3. Have you ever seen The Cure in concert? Which tour(s) and how many times? Once on the Wish tour and once on the Bloodflowers tour. Both times were in Long Island, NY.

4. Favorite album and why? The Head On The Door

5. Least fave and why? The Top--I still find this one very strange.

6. Favorite song? Any specific memories/stories you have about it? Just Like Heaven--sure, it's an obvious choice, but there's a reason why it's an obvious choice: it's just so damn good! It's my second favorite song of all time for chrissakes; higher than any Siouxsie song! Banshees fans would take my Siouxsie card away if they knew.

7. Any Cure song you cannot stand? How come? New Day--I'm still trying to figure out what all the screaming is about.

8. Favorite duet or collabo? Smith's two albums with The Banshees would be an obvious choice for me but his contributions to the Banshees were very limited. The Glove album is more of a real collaboration so I choose that. Conversely, I was very disappointed with Smith's song with Junior Jack, "Da Hype". His voice doesn't go well with techno/house.

9. Who would you like to see Robert Smith do a duet with? I think DFA could bring back some of the magic.

10. Favorite era? This can be based on decade, band lineup, sound, anything really. 1985-1989. The Cure were at their peak during this period.

11. What artist(s) do you see a major Cure influence on? Many of the new post-punk bands that have already been mentioned.

12. Favorite television moment? Hmmm. Maybe the 'Play At Home' U.K. TV special with The Banshees back in 1985. I didn't see it until years later of course. They must have been on serious drugs when taping it.

13. Favorite b-side or non-album track? Maybe "2 Late". "Babble" and "A Japanese Dream" are honorable mentions.

14. First single you purchased or were given? The Quadpus U.S. 12" EP which I bought shortly after 'The Head On The Door' record.

15. Last single you purchased or were given? I think it was the "Gone" U.K. CD. I have since sold it on ebay.

16. Do you own all of The Cure's albums? If not, which was the last one you picked up? If so, will you be replacing them with the remasters? I just recently got last year's self titled album to complete my collection of original releases, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. I plan on buying all the remasters at some point.

17. Will you be buying the next one? Most likely.

18. Would you like to see a Robert Smith solo album? I don't see what the point is. Robert IS The Cure.

19. Did you ever go through a goth phase where you dressed and wore your hair and makeup like Robert Smith? mr.green I did wear the white shirt with the rosary beads a few times. That's Robert isn't it? His hair thing doesn't work on me though.

20. Is The Cure your overall favorite artist? If not, who is? Are they your favorite band? I like The Cure obviously, but I never considered them one of my favorite bands.

21. What is your best memory tied to The Cure? Probably when my friends and I were tossed from a club for over-aggressive moshing (long story--it wasn't our fault) and as we were leaving, the DJ began to play the 12" version of "High" and I was really upset because I wanted to dance to that song.

1. What was the first Cure album you purchased or were given, and what was the year? I got my first vinyl from my sister. Her Head On The Door album was almost always in my room anyways. I think it might be that she just forgot it when she moved out of the house. By that time she had moved over to Marillion, Fish and U2 anyways.

2. What was the first video you remember seeing, and which one is your favorite to date? I do not know. The first video I saw must have been something from The Top or Head On The Door.

3. Have you ever seen The Cure in concert? Which tour(s) and how many times? Alas, no.

4. Favorite album and why? Seventeen Seconds. I worked my way back from Head On The Door and Seventeen Seconds SO fit my moods and journey through growing up and being a teenager.

5. Least fave and why? Wild Mood Swings. No particular reason. I just hardly play it.

6. Favorite song? Any specific memories/stories you have about it? 10:15 Saturday Night. Somehow it just jumps up at me. Always did, always lifts my spirits, somehow, while it is not a particularly 'happy' song. The memory? I used to request this song always when I went to Korsakov, an Amsterdam bar. My friends and I would go and hang out there and dance. Good times.

7. Any Cure song you cannot stand? How come? Like Q 5; I do not detest anything in particular. Just songs and albums I do not play often.

8. Favorite duet or collabo? I never branched out too much from the albums, certainly never chased any non-Cure activities. To be able to fill this out I will give you my favest song by another artist, performed by The Cure; it's their version of Love Will Tear Us Apart that I like alot.

9. Who would you like to see Robert Smith do a duet with? Ooooh! Tori Amos. A murder ballad!

10. Favorite era? This can be based on decade, band lineup, sound, anything really. I can track alot of my coming of age (ha!) music back to the year 1989. To me, based on The Cure being lovingly commercial and me still being an everywhere-outsider; their songs of Disintegration perfect colloborations with my aloofness.

11. What artist(s) do you see a major Cure influence on? Never thought of this. When thinking about it, cannot come up with an answer.

12. Favorite television moment? Don't have one.

13. Favorite b-side or non-album track? I like almost the entire Join The Dots compilation, but if I had knowd Another Journey By Train around the time I used to hang out at Korsakov, I would have requested that one alot too.

14. First single you purchased or were given? The first (and only) I ever bought was Lullaby. I love that song.

15. Last single you purchased or were given? hmm sowwy.

16. Do you own all of The Cure's albums? If not, which was the last one you picked up? If so, will you be replacing them with the remasters? I used to own them all up to Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, after that my attention wavered (into the Prince spectrum). I now own them as MP3. I am a happy downloader.

17. Will you be buying the next one? If I have money. I might.

18. Would you like to see a Robert Smith solo album? I think that he does not need a solo album. I am quite sure that if he did something on his own, it would be just another Cure album.

19. Did you ever go through a goth phase where you dressed and wore your hair and makeup like Robert Smith? mr.green Yes.

20. Is The Cure your overall favorite artist? If not, who is? Are they your favorite band? No. I do not have a favourite one at the moment. I love to discover new bands, but also (re)discover music of the past. I used to like Prince most of all, but I am only just a bystander in the Prince musical spectrum, as his music after 1991 does not 'bind me', emotionally.
So now I am branching off into emo-rock mostly. I have a buddy in Gangstafam to guide me passionately through my musical relapses.

21. What is your best memory tied to The Cure? Huge parts of the 80's just have The Cure as soundtrack. I cannot pick one memory over the other. The Cure music back then certainly caught me.

I am currently enjoying making new memories on the new music they released. I can certainly encourage everybody that likes to hear Robert Smith's voice and The Cure's music to expand their musical horizon and get that latest album.
And the Black Session live bootleg; it is amazing.

1. What was the first Cure album you purchased or were given, and what was the year?

I stole a copy of The Head On The Door from my sister. I didn't give it much attention, though. My first PURCHASE was Disintegration

2. What was the first video you remember seeing, and which one is your favorite to date?

1st- Lovesong
Fave- Lullaby

3. Have you ever seen The Cure in concert? Which tour(s) and how many times?

once for Wish and once for Curiosa

4. Favorite album and why?

Disintegration- IMO, this album is one of THE best complete albums ever. the consistency of the sound and mood can hardly be beat. It came out in my formative years and has MANY, many memories tied to it. GOOD STUFF.

5. Least fave and why?

I don't know enough of their material to have a least fave. I have many albums to get someday and have liked all that I've heard so far.

6. Favorite song? Any specific memories/stories you have about it?

For a happy day: High
For an "I hate myself" hangover day: Open
For nostalgia of days and people past: Pictures of You

7. Any Cure song you cannot stand? How come?

Their cover of "Hello, I love you." It seemed blasphemous at the time and now just plain silly.

8. Favorite duet or collabo?

eh? I guess the Creatures? I ain't really heard much else

9. Who would you like to see Robert Smith do a duet with?

I have NO idea

10. Favorite era? This can be based on decade, band lineup, sound, anything really.

Repeating myself here: Disintegration/Wish because of itheir timing in my life. The despair and angst in Disntegration with the added bliss in portions of Wish just was PERFECT for me.

11. What artist(s) do you see a major Cure influence on?

?

12. Favorite television moment?

I haven't seen many, so I'll go with "Unplugged." The toy piano was TOO cute.

13. Favorite b-side or non-album track?

Sucker for nosalgia- Harold and Joe- it just reminds me of a time when life seemed so complex but was actually so simple and fun. I hadn't heard it in YEARS and when I finally heard it again, I was instantly transported back to my high school years.

14. First single you purchased or were given?

Lovesong

15. Last single you purchased or were given?

Never Enough on CASSINGLE!!!

16. Do you own all of The Cure's albums? If not, which was the last one you picked up? If so, will you be replacing them with the remasters?

Not even close to owning all. I last got the Three Imaginary Boys reissue.

17. Will you be buying the next one?

The next reissue- definately, the next "new" album- it depends on my mood smile

18. Would you like to see a Robert Smith solo album?

naw dude

19. Did you ever go through a goth phase where you dressed and wore your hair and makeup like Robert Smith?

naw dude- al;though I did die my hair black for 10+ years, but I was never anything resembling goth. Morrissey got me first smile

20. Is The Cure your overall favorite artist? If not, who is? Are they your favorite band?

Nope to those. They make my top 20 though smile (My fave band is The Charlatans-ps)

21. What is your best memory tied to The Cure?

Being 16. Driving down the highway stoned as hell with about 6 people stuffed into an old rusted out pinto. The skies open up and the rain comes down. We pull over into a ditch, get out of the car, roll all the windows down and BLAST Disintegration (on tape) while we dance around in the rain. I prolly have about 37 other stories like this- dancing in the rain. They all get my "best memory" award.

Close second was the near spiritual experience of seeing their Curiosa performance with some beautiful folks- it was outta hand

I think it partly comes from all the name calling over the years most recently documented in the Banshees' biography a few years ago. It also seems to me to be a bit one-sided. Maybe Banshees fans are envious of their former guitarist having much more success than the Banshees ever did.

1. What was the first Cure album you purchased or were given, and what was the year?

The Head On The Door; 1986

2. What was the first video you remember seeing, and which one is your favorite to date?

In-Between Days; I really enjoy the silly video for "Close To Me", as well as its "sequel" video from the remix album.

3. Have you ever seen The Cure in concert? Which tour(s) and how many times?

Disintegration 1989 (actually called the "Prayer" tour); This past years tour.

4. Favorite album and why?

Disintegration. Its everything I love about the Cure. A truly brilliant, moody masterpiece.

5. Least fave and why?

Wild Mood Swings; That album was absolute shite, through and through.barf

6. Favorite song? Any specific memories/stories you have about it?

Oh man, favorite?? Too hard to say! Right now, I'm rather partial to "10:15 Saturday Night". I also truly love "Lovesong", "Disintegration", "Forest", "Shake Dog Shake", "The Blood" "Screw"

7. Any Cure song you cannot stand? How come?

All of them from WMS. Friggin' HATE that album. I also detest "Friday I'm In Agony From The Pain Of Hearing This Piece Of Shit". It sounds like an outtake from a bad Sesame Street album.

8. Favorite duet or collabo?

The Glove

9. Who would you like to see Robert Smith do a duet with?

Tori Amos

10. Favorite era? This can be based on decade, band lineup, sound, anything really.

Head On The Door through Disintegration. To me, its like their version of the Parade, Sign, Black, Lovesexy era

11. What artist(s) do you see a major Cure influence on?

Interpol, Marilyn Manson, Rasputina, Hot Hot Heat, The Smashing Pumpkins

12. Favorite television moment?

No, I don't; The Cure; I hope to, but it will take a long damned time. Gotta get Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography when they are released, and you KNOW I'm dying for Disintegration to get the remaster treatment

17. Will you be buying the next one?

Heck yeah!

18. Would you like to see a Robert Smith solo album?

What's the point? He IS The Cure. He's the only person on every album

19. Did you ever go through a goth phase where you dressed and wore your hair and makeup like Robert Smith? mr.green

No, but I had plenty of weirdo 80s looks of my own. Half my friends were dressed like Robert or Siouxsie

No. Prince is

21. What is your best memory tied to The Cure?

Listening to Disintegration during a hurricane that had me trapped in my house. I also really enjoyed going to their concert this past year with my fiancee.

1. What was the first Cure album you purchased or were given, and what was the year? MIXED UP, 1990

2. What was the first video you remember seeing, and which one is your favorite to date? FIRST VIDEO: HIGH, 1992. MY FAVORITE IS PROLLY THE 1986 VERSION OF BOYS DON'T CRY

3. Have you ever seen The Cure in concert? Which tour(s) and how many times? TWICE - 1992 AND 2000

4. Favorite album and why?
KISS ME KISS ME KISS ME. it's the perfect double album, so many styles and not a clunker track in it. from the intro "The Kiss" to the final "Fight" ... a great journey

5. Least fave and why?
IT'S a tie between THE TOP and WILD MOOD SWINGS, with SELF TITLED bring up the rear. It's all personal preference of course, but those albums just don't do anything for me. The Top is too oblique, WMS is too ... UGH. Self titled's lyrics ruin it for me.

6. Favorite song? Any specific memories/stories you have about it?
Right, Right, too hard to pick one favorite. Let's go with THE KISS, PRIMARY, and DISINTEGRATION. Today.

7. Any Cure song you cannot stand? How come?
I hate "Club America" even more than I hate "STRANGE ATTRACTION". I can't explain it, they just suck. They're very un-cure.

8. Favorite duet or collabo?
The "BLUE SUNSHINE" LP by The Glove. LOVE IT.

9. Who would you like to see Robert Smith do a duet with?
NOBODY. Maybe Ani Difranco.

10. Favorite era? This can be based on decade, band lineup, sound, anything really.
The Wish Era band was my favorite, although The Bloodflowers tour turned me into a Jason Cooper fan. hmm...

13. Favorite b-side or non-album track?
THATS TOUGH. If backed into a corner I would probably say THE BIG HAND or I'M COLD or SPILT MILK.

14. First single you purchased or were given?
Never Enough 12 inch.

15. Last single you purchased or were given?
Both of the "13th" singles, for the b-sides.

16. Do you own all of The Cure's albums? If not, which was the last one you picked up? If so, will you be replacing them with the remasters?
Very little of my Cure is on CD, so yes, I am buying the remasters. Most of my cure is on cassette or vinyl. The last CD I bought was bloodflowers, and I copied Self-Titled from a friend. In one format or another I do own all the cure's albums, including "Entreat".

17. Will you be buying the next one?
Probably. I'm hoping the latest album will just be a mistake.

18. Would you like to see a Robert Smith solo album?
I have already seen that. It was 1984 and it was called "The Top". Aside from that, yeah.

19. Did you ever go through a goth phase where you dressed and wore your hair and makeup like Robert Smith?
No. I just love their music

20. Is The Cure your overall favorite artist? If not, who is? Are they your favorite band?
The cure are my favorite. Definately in the top five with Ani Difranco, Hendrix, Zappa and Nirvana.

21. What is your best memory tied to The Cure?
The Bloodflowers tour.
Keep your headphones on.

Why's that? Seems pretty standard Cure fare to me.
