Who wants to be famous?

I say ur crazy and very insecure if you wanna be the next huge thing in music. Sports and movies are different,

Yes the money but really, most people settle for average fame and money, but some people wanna be mega stars. This drive to be the biggest must stem from insecurity and having something to prove.

I never wanna be famous, yet it seems more and more kids today do.

i would like to make enough money from my skill to make a living and to fund other projects i'd want to do, and i'd like enough of a following to make that happen and to get lots of feedback on the work i put out. that, and maybe i'd like to be enough to travel every now and again to promote my work. i don't need the excesses. i would just like to one day be successful enough to where i can devote my days to my creative work without having to worry about bills or some stupid-ass job that has nothing to do with anything i truly care about.

that is all.

Well, I'd say that athletes are the most egotistical out of the whole. But, there's not too much difference between some actors and musicians.

Athletes don't get the media as much as pop and film stars. They have thier own media, but it ain't as bad. Athlestes seem more down to earth and realistic. They know shit happens (they know injuries) and they work alot harder then musicians and actors (especially actors).

Athletes really do have to start young to get anywhere good.

this applys to pop stars too, maybe not actors. but labels now in days don't sign people over 30, or at least not very many

Well, I beg to disagree. Watch any NBA or NFL player (if you're in the USA) or look at David Beckham or someone in the UK if you want a good example of arrogance. Believe me, I think they are up there in the ego sweepstakes with someone like Usher, MJ, Tom Cruise, etc...

This thread is so true

I used to want to be a singer...but at the same time I wanted to prove something to the people that made fun of me in school. I wanted them to hear me on the radio and see me on Mtv

Forget that, I love music but it wasnt working
Musicians like hearing themselves and watching themselves in videos
Ask yourself...why are there beauty shots in videos???

Im an artist at heart but I can still rub it in my classmates faces biggrin

I would like to make a living making music. But I would like some degree of normalcy. About as famous as I could handle is the level of Bjork. I would need the kind of freedom she has with her releases, artwork, videos, tours, etc.

So for those of you who say you only want to be an artist, would it bother you if you went to an event like the Grammys, and none of the fans knew or cared who you are, as long as you had freedom?

I want to be uncontrollably famous and amazingly rich nod nod nod...all because I can entertain, write music and sing. YES! nod I want the fame and everything it brings...I would like to be so rich that I never hear the word BILLS wall again. I would love to be able to contribute to the things that need voluntary money (environamental, animal, disease and sickness causes, etc.) and still go out spree shopping in LA and NYC for some Manolo Blahniks and the latest Gucci purse because Louis Vuitton is SO over bored. The music industry needs an artist like moi among other undiscovereds mr.green who pay tribute, respect and show unconditional heart to real musicians and artists and such like back in the day of ANY genre of music. Bring on the fame so everyone can know my name: YES!!!

I don't know what I would want to be famous for, but I would love to live the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

I'd be the most over the top, outrageous thing the world has ever seen. I would love to live in a mansion and ride in limos. I'd love to wear custom made, one of a kind, wild, outrageous outfits, and have a live in hairdresser. Hell, I'd even have someone to put my cigarette up to my lips every time I need a puff. And that cigarette would be on one of those long ass cigarette holders. lol

I'd throw wild parties every night that would lead to an all night orgy....just line them up, have them, and say....NEXT!!!!! lol

I'd also love to be surrounded by bodyguards all the time. I would need them too because I would be a lowdown motherfucker. lol

i always say i'd like to be 'laurie anderson famous' - famous enough that my work makes me marketable in some way, but not so famous that i couldn't walk down the street without being terrorized by people. plus i've always loved that every laurie fan i've met 'gets' her music - they're more fans of her art than of her as a celebrity. that kind of civility and kinda laid-back enjoyment of someone's art really appeals to me, whatever end of the exchange i happen to be on.

It looks to me like its the Catch 22 of fame. Do you want to be a "star" or do you want to be an "artist"? A "star" by nature, whether they are pop music stars, movie stars, etc., make entertainment which appeals to great masses of people and makes a lot of money, but generally is not considered to be memorable. An artist is more concerned about being the best in their particular craft, and while they may become stars, they are more concerned about their integrity and longevity, and they are more likely to pursue risky projects which may alienate or confuse their fans. The artist's true fans usually love their work as much as their persona.

In music, you usually can tell the difference between the stars (Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Madonna, Celine Dion, Beyonce, Tim McGraw) and the artists (Prince, R.E.M., Ani DeFranco, Public Enemy) by looking at who has top selling albums and singles as opposed to who their peers consider to be the best musicians. In movies, this is even more obvious, as the "movie stars" usually perform in movies that are created to be blockusters at the box office or calulcated "Oscar-worthy" movies while "actors" or "thespians", who may be in a blockbuster film, will occasionally work on a low budget or independent film that they know will only have a limited audience. Most people would consider Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Halle Berry and Julia Roberts to be movie stars, but they would consider Robert DeNiro and Clint Eastwood to be thespians. The hard part to evaluate about this dichotomy is when someone who aims to be a thespian is steered to be a movie star by the studios due to their looks, etc.

Huh? Do the 2 have to be mutually exclusive? I would consider Michael and Madonna to be artists, just artists who court fame to prolong their reigns. They both write and produce. If Prince didn't want to be a star, why would he have made all those movies? Have top selling artists never been considered great musicians?

I would love to be Laurie Anderson Famous. That's exactly what I want to be. An intellectual artist who questions and prods culture. Not for the fame, but the ability to make unusual, interesting, avant garde art that says something. The ability to experiment, do cool things, and share it with others. I like to think I share Laurie's aesthetic as a sound designer, violinist, spiritualist, cultural critic, feminist.

It's not about the fame, but I like the idea of making an impact. That is, having something to offer that's special enough to make people really care about it.

One of my best friends met his wife at a Laurie Anderson concert and they got married a few months later.nod

oh, if i were to want fame, i'd only want it so i could have my assistants tell everyone that i must never be within earshot of a vacuum cleaner or else there will be hell to pay.

i freakin' hate vacuum cleaners, and the sound of them is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. if i could do anything to never have to be near one again, that would be worth the travails of fame, i think.
