rumoured u2 setlist

ok...so of course over on the u2 boards there is all sorts of speculation regarding what the setlist will be for the "vertigo" tour. apparantly there is a guy who posted a very accurate setlist prior to the "elevation" tour and supposedly he has an "in" for info regarding the tour. among other songs that have been rehearsed, this is the alleged opening night setlist:

1. City of Blinding Lights
2. All Because of You
3. Miracle Drug
4. 11 O'clock tick tock
5. In God's Country
6. Crumbs from Your Table
7. Bad
8. Where the Streets Have no Name
9. Vertigo

Smaller stage/acoustic set

10. Sometimes You cant make it on your own
11. Slow Dancing
12. Running to a Stand Still
13. One
14. Sweetest Thing

Back to bigger stage.

15. Love/Peace or Else
16. Electrical Storm (new addition I believe)
17. Sunday Bloody Sunday
18. Original of the Species
19. Beautiful Day
20. I will follow

Encore:

21. The Fly
22. Mysterious Ways
23. Pride
24. Desire
25. Forty

i don't have much faith in rumoured setlists but its still fun to post it and get psyched up anyway, lol.

hmmm

Could be interesting. City of Blinding Lights could be a good opener, but I see it more like Streets, where the concert builds up to it. Slow Dancing was the B-side to Stay back in '93, and I don't know if it's ever been played live. 11 O'Clock Tick Tock would FUCKING ROCK live, and I will explode if they play Running to Stand Still. If they do play The Fly, I hope they do it a'la Elevation with the acoustic intro and without the falsetto in the chorus. It sounds older and more world-weary. I love it.

What do you think of the rumors of a target shaped stage?

Truthfully, I don't even care what they play. There are only a handful of U2 songs that I wouldn't like to hear live, and I know that they're going to give me exactly what I want anyway. I would KILL to hear Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me though.

dancing jig In God's Country live. drool

Now I gotta wait until they come around here on the third leg of the tour.

Must say, though...Where the Streets Have No Name seems sort of early in the set. But they do have the usual Bad/Streets combo that we've seen before...

nutty Oh God I can't wait any longer...

yeah but they can't resurrect GLORIA? SURRENDER? AN CAT DUBH? I think they've shut out their fans of the "old school" U2 (hearing new year's day, i will follow and pride ain't enough for me!) i orgasmed when they pulled out OUT OF CONTROL on the last tour...why can't they dust off some of the other oldies they did on early tours?

Yes, SassyB, target I'm salty. hrmph

Well, Edge and Bono are less than fond of Gloria. Edge said it "doesn't hold up over time" and Bono thinks it's "naive". I think they're crazy, as it's one of my favorite old-school U2 songs. Plus, we've got 40, Tick Tock, God's Country, and Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Add Unforgettable Fire in and A Sort of Homecoming from '84; I'd love to hear at least one song from Pop (preferably Please, Gone, or Last Night on Earth), and I really really need to hear Kite.

Tick Tock I will admit is a great song but it doesn't have nearly as much energy as GLORIA.

considering that i only "liked" u2 up until rattle and hum, i'm happy with this possible setlist. my real love for the lads started with achtung baby and only grew during their 90's excesses and irony. atyclb was a bit of a disappointment for me, musically, because they'd "been there, done that." atomic bomb seems like a nice blend of their whole career so i'm glad they plan on doing about 9 of those tracks. the way i look at it is i'm not going to see the joshua tree tour or the war tour or the unforgettable fire tour. i'm going to see the 'vertigo' tour...i wanna hear that whole freakin' album live!

and for the record...they needs to close the show with Yahweh. period.

i agree in part. i don't think the standard classic hits should be what they use to represent their older material. they should bust out twilight or gloria or trip through your wire or two hearts beat as one...older stuff that would really be appreciated by those fans who've been around the whole time. throw in wire or a sort of homecoming...stories for boys, tomorrow...those songs shold pop up as a "thanks" to those that have been there from the beginning.

then add all of the atomic bomb material!

yes I've been saying that since the album leaked. 40 is a great song, great show closer, but it's been done.

I'm spinning Blood Red right now, and I gotta say that they should bring back Electric Co and Party Girl. There is so much energy in these songs!

Remember that U2 setlists rotate, though, and that they will probably be older songs inserted throughout the show. I would be surprised if they didn't throw some Boy-War era songs into the set, because they keep referring to the new album as "our first CD"; I'm thinking they will thematically tie some old stuff in.

so i'm really expecting seconds to be on this tour. it fits the theme of the tour so well...especially the whole target thing. they've gotta pull that tune out.
