Joni Mitchel doesn't pick Prince

I was just in Starbucks and saw a new collection of songs by Joni Mitchell that were picked by other artists. Prince picked A Case of You. Then right next to that was a cd of songs that Joni Mitchell picked for a cd of songs she listens to or is inspired by. No Prince on that one. Funny that.

She has contempt for those who idolize her. Always has.

Has she ever expounded on that?

Dunno why, but she's always dissed P. Sheryl Crow. Jewel. Several others.

that, or it was difficult for them to license a prince song for the compilation, what with all the WB messiness and whatnot.

I'm sure it's not a diss and that she appreciates some of P's stuff. But he is certainly not an influence of hers.

Who did she pick?

True. His music doesn't end up on any 80's compilations or really anything. True with Madonna too.

I'm sure that Prince music not being included on the cd wasn't a diss. She was one of the last people to leave Prince's 3121 party a few weeks ago and always tells the story of playing for a doe-eyed w/huge afro Prince when he was about 15 years old. The only time I heard of Joni saying something remotely negative was when she turned down a song he offered her back in the 80's called, "You R My Electric Pump". So get your story straight. Chances are P wasn't interested in his music being distributed on a Starbucks compilation.

The quotes I've read attributed to Joni about Prince aren't very favorable, about how he doesn't really create original music, etc. and those comments were back in the mid-or-late 80's, during his heyday.

That's strange as hell. She never struck me as playing with a full deck, though.

I once read an interview where Joni was asked about Prince. She said that she doesn't consider him an "innovator",but she said that he is great at taking different influences and melding them together.Or something to that effect.

Wow. Why is this even a topic? You guys actually care if an artist that influenced Prince doesn't feel the same influence? I suppose James Brown should pay homage to Prince and Jimi should rise from the grave just to give Prince a thumbs up? Talk about idolworship. rolleyes
