Re-post: Rod Temperton!

Paisleypark4 was just talking about "Boogie Nights", and I dug up one'o my older posts: I was thinkin' about Rod Temperton:

-keyboardist, writer and arranger with Heatwave , and one of Quincy's favorite writers; I always thought it was interesting that a white English cat who looks a little like 'Bentley' from 'The Jeffersons' had written so many R&B/Pop classics...This is just a partial list of tunes that he's written, co-written and produced:

Always and Forever - Heatwave
Rock With You- Michael Jackson
Off the Wall - Michael Jackson
Boogie Nights - Heatwave
Ain't No Half steppin - Heatwave
The Groove Line - Heatwave
Give Me The Night - George Benson
Thriller - Michael Jackson
Star Of A Story - Heatwave, George Benson
Love Times Love - George Benson
The Secret Garden - Quincy Jones (w/El Debarge, Barry White, Al B. Sure)
Baby Come To Me - Quincy Jones w/Patti Austin
The Lady In My Life - Michael Jackson

Baby Be Mine - Michael Jackson
Razzamatazz - Quincy Jones (w/Patti Austin)
Mystery - Manhattan Transfer
All you Do Is Dial - Heatwave
Something Special - Quincy Jones(w/ Patti Austin)
Yah Mo Be There - James Ingram and Michael McDonald
You Put A Move on My Heart - Mica Paris, Quincy Jones w/ Tamia
Slow Jam - Babyface & Tamia, Portrait and Barry White
Look After Love - Heatwave
Stomp! - Brothers Johnson
All About The Heaven - Brothers Johnson
Treasure - Brothers Johnson
Light Up The Night - Brothers Johnson
Turn Out The Lamp Light - George Benson
Off Broadway - George Benson
Celebrations - Brothers Johnson

Turn Your Love Around - George Benson
Gangsters Of The Groove - Heatwave

Now I'm imagining him walking up and down Quincey's back whenever he had a back ache falloff

I love Temperton. He made some great records, and songs like Razzamatazz were a lot of fun. He really had a great ear for arrangements (both vocally and musically) that had a "hit" sound. Yeah, a lot of his stuff has the same sound, but it's a good one that I don't tire of.

nod That's true, you can usually recognize a Temperton-style tune, but I love most of them, especially the ballads...
