Loreena McKennitt

How I love this woman's music. Especially from the moment she started incorporating Arabic music into it.... what a wonderful combination....

Especially her Winter Garden album speaks to me...it speaks of wonder. And a world not my own... or even of rediscovering my own world...and falling in love with it all over.

She has taken time away from music to grief for her lover, who died in an accident, but rumours are going around fro some time now that some new material might surface soon.

Yes, I absolutely love Loreena."The Visit" was the first album of hers that I purchased and her rendition of Bonny Portmore alone cemented my position as a 'follower'. smile

Yes, I do! In fact I just recently picked it up. I'd meant to grab it for a while now but I'd already heard a majority of it's very short track listing on other various artists collections. I especially like "Snow" and "Seeds Of Love" off this album but I find her voice to be in really good form throughout.

nod I couldn't agree with you more. A while back, I had started a thread about her. I espcially love her Book Of Secrets,The Mask And Mirror, Winter Garden and her live CDs.I listen to her alot on my Launchcast player and I am starting a collection of her CD's. She is definitely a brillient artist. My mother and I definitely love how she combines Arabic music with Celtic music b/c its a stroke a genius..

Loreena McKennitt is amazing.

I can't believe it's been so long since her last album, although the last I heard, she stated that the next CD will be ready by September of this year (although this was about a year ago).

I particularly love the sleevenotes of her albums, where she talks about the journeys she went on that inspired her art.

I just wish the World would wake up and discover her.

I am sure that being world famous is not the reason why she is making music.

Let the world sleep and only cool people be hip to her music. Let it be our secret.

nod Exactly. Her music is definitely a fine secret indeed. I think the Pop World is the people who are sleeping on her music and its a shame. Oh well, they are missing out on a musical feast.

LoL

Pop World these days consists of produced teenage act that have a lifespan of five years. Commercialism has totally fucked up a market that once used to be somewhat more adventurous.

I read an article in Interview that had Elton John (one of their musical critics) raving about satellite radio, where a dj would play not one style of music but many different ones, so hipping you to things you would otherwie never hear.

Before Dutch radio went commercial we only had ONE public pop radio channel and during rush hour there was a program by this guy who would play lots of different styles. Loved that program, but like many good things, it disappeared into the frenzied fray that commerce brought on.

It looked nice in the beginning; the freedom to make whatever radio or television you want, excpet it does not work that way. They play what the moneymakers want them to. sad

And sigh

Oh well. Satellite radio it is then.

PS 2 Gangstafam; Interview had a pic and smallish article about The Arcade Fire too....

I love Loreena McKennitt and I have all of her music and I felt bad when her boyfriend died in that accident. She's such a gifted soul. I got into her music when PBS showed that series on Witches. She was similar to Ani DeFranco and had her own record label. I know she was picked up by a larger label, distribution deal? But right now I can't remember who it was and I'm at work so maybe someone can help me here.

True, but it sounded like you wanted here to be big like Madonna. Let's keep McKennitt inner circle stuff....
