Do you think music collabos are being forced now? Do you think music collabos are being forced now?

Been the case for always and eternity. "If we put them together, they will buy."
Not all collabs are motivated by sales but IMHO most of them are. I'm firmly planted in denial

Nowadays it does especially seem that collaborations and duets are the "in" thing to do, and I personally am tired of it. It seems most prevelant in rap music - everybody does duets and collaborations with EVERYBODY. BORING.
I know collaborations have always been around but these days it seems more about marketing and creating hype than it ever used to (or maybe I'm just naive, I don't know) and not about attempting to create a unique dynamic between two (or more) artists, or about what the end result **musically** will be - now it seems more about just being able to hype up that X and X are performing together on a song SO BUY THE CD CUZ IT"S SO HOT AND HAPPENING.$$$$

It depends on who the performer is and how much cachet they have. But they're definitely being suggested (ahem, pressured) to a whole lot of performers as a marketing ploy to maximize sales.
It's like nobody can carry an album on their own anymore, and that's lame. Sometimes there are just too many damn pseudo cooks in that kitchen. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

In the beginning, I was fine with them but I got bored with them real fast back in the 1980s. It's like everything else. When people have success with something, they will beat a dead horse to death. Andy is a four letter word.
