IF MJ ain´t the King of Pop, than WHO IS? I still see and hear people calling MJ the self-proclaimed King of Pop. Well guys, if you think he´s not, than WHO IS IT????? "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

It doesn't matter, the fact is he is self procclaimed, by Miss Liz Taylor.
No one started calling him that until he asked to be called it. and even on tv they call him self procclaimed

Well, better be selfproclaimed King Of Pop then all the other names he is being called. But still. It is just a name he gave himself. He is a dinosaur that will not make the transcend to the next age. Everything about him is already void, except his old music as source of inspiration.

It's only self-proclaimed since he fell from grace. When KOP first came into use, it was KOP this and KOP that. KOP or any title is dumb, and thats whats been wrong with mike after he blew up, he started worrying about shit that didn't have to do with music. Mike is the biggest global pop star we've ever seen and the most popular star to come after elvis and the beatles...so I guess that makes him popular...but when it comes down to it he was really the KOP before he was called the KOP..a time when he soley concentrated on his craft. She's played with all the styles that were popular in the eras she was making music. At one time she was a hippie and now she's really popular with the younger crowd because she has shifted to what is cool.

Prince and MJ have been making solo material for over 25 years.
One is winning Grammy's, One is in court for sucking off little boys. Which one is king to you? . .

He's making new fans. Infact, most of the mj boards are 70% teenagers. There was one topic at one mj board asking "how old are you, when did you become a fan and why?" Most of them kids said they got into mj after Bashir and BECAUSE of bashir documentary.

One is winning Grammy's, One is in court for sucking off little boys. Which one is king to you? . MJ has been releasin music for 38 years. When he's in court for sucking off little boys, he's selling almost 20000 albums a week. spellingedit. [Edited 2/15/05 3:35am]

When did this turn into a Prince vs MJ thread ? Which one is king to you?
I don't think P wants to be called the king of anything. One is in court for sucking off little boys.
He's not accused of that act. One is winning Grammy's
Mike has three times as many grammy's, but I guess they only mean something when P wins one. [Edited 2/15/05 3:48am]

...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

Classy and stupid. fortunately, as a fan of both guys, i'm not going to stoop to your level and bash Prince in any way, but when Mike walks free, i sincerely hope he gets in that studio and records some real quality music that people actually want to buy. That's all i'm saying.

You defence is so weak you are attempting nit picking to try and win. None of us know the exact implications against MJ, but it revolves around touching boys. Fact. It doesn't matter how many grammy's he got. He's not the one winning them now. A cupboard full of Grammy's isn't a defence for not winning then now, being the "King of pop" or sleeping with little boys. .

But Cher has shifted over from generation to generation pleasing each one. She scored a #1 hit with the Believe album in 1998 and was 52 years old. MJ's latest effort being Invincible, though it still sold a lot, has not even scratched the surface of his other efforts... Though Cher cannot outsell MJ, she is selling more at 58 than she was at 24, that says a lot

The thread is asking if MJ is the king of pop. So my statement is based on simple fact. He is no where near a Grammy in his genre, and he is in court for child abuse.
Is he still the king of pop to you? This court thing has NOTHING to do with his music! And if you ask, yes he still IS the king of pop to me. There´s noone out there right now, who could replace. All I am seeing these days are clones of MJ, which proves him - besides the sales, great music, groundbreaking dance and music videos- once again the title! It is interesting that NOBODY has ever made a fuss about Elvis being the "king of rock ń roll" As for Prince - I don´t think he does pop. To me - he´s the KING OF FUNKY MUSIC!!! "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

[Edited 2/15/05 4:01am] I never thought he was, you'll never find me utter or type that title. As for my mind being made up, yes, i do believe in him and want him to be innocent. Is that so wrong? I find people salivating in the hope he's guilty quite unsettling. Grammy's are irrelevant. However, I would remind you though Mike's well into double figures. Prince won his first two in twenty years in return for opening the Grammy's last year and a fantastic 'give-away as in can't sell' marketing strategy in this last year. More irrelevance, salewise, 'Musicology' is nowhere near that mega flop 'Invincible' or even 'Blood On The Dancefloor'. A 'shitty' remix album for fucks sake!! I guess i stooped.

However, I would say, by your very definition, if we stick purely to the music, then the question is... Is he the king of POPular music? Popular is not a genre, unlike Rock n Roll, or RnB. It contains what is currently popular. Then I would say no, he is not the king of POPular music anymore. . .
