Singer Talks: Why He Gouged Out His Eye
R&B singer Houston, who gouged his eye out while in a London hotel on Jan. 27, issued a statement late last week saying the devil made him do it.


The Associated Press reports that Houston's publicist denied earlier reports that he had tried to commit suicide by jumping out of a London hotel window. The publicist said Houston had "found himself in the midst of a spiritual battle against the evil that runs rampant in the entertainment industry." In addition, the singer's body guard, Marco Powell, issued this statement: "I went to check on him before going to bed, and I saw blood on the floor. Houston was lying on his bed with a towel over his face, and I removed the towel to find his eye hanging out. He said he had to get the devil off of his back, and that's the only way he could kill the devil." The statement went on to explain that Houston was raised strictly Christian and was "constantly at odds with the temptations that come with success in the music business."



Houston, whose full name is Houston Summers IV, released the single "I Like That" in 2004 and within a month, it was certified gold. In addition, it was used in a McDonald's commercial. He was briefly hospitalized for his serious eye injury and then returned to his home in Los Angeles. AP notes that the condition of his eye is not known.

Well, this is not surprising about what happen to him b/c he started out as a Gospel Artist. Then, when he turned mainstream, he gained sucess and got currupted by the many tempatations that are out there which in his case is Angel Dust/PCP. Perhaps, he should hook up with Kirk Franklin and maybe get back into the Gospel scence once he gets his self together.

I don't understand any of this but I remember years ago on Oprah there was a family on & one of the sisters had gouged her own eyes out... or maybe one of her sisters did it Can't remember, but the bitch was blind w/ gause over both eyes b/c she was posessed by the devil & they were saying it was the only way to get the devil out of her. The music industry is nasty, that's for damn sure. If I was in his situation I'd probably be going insane too . . . he is surrounded by heartless phony people.

I always thought he was a rapper judging from the single I Like That which didnt sound like a pop or R&B song.

Anyway I hope he get "the devil" out of him and he can moce on peacefully

I see what you're saying but not everyone in pop is on angel dust (nor do I think you stated that). Ihave nothing against gospel, but just because you went pop doesn't mean you have to lose your damn mind! That being said, one less R&B clone isn't a bad thing, so maybe he needs to go back to gospel.
