Music Selections Influenced by Org'ers

On more than one occasion, conversations with different Org'ers and browsing threads have influenced my music purchases. I'm guessing I'm not the only one. Which albums have you purchased and who influenced the decision?

I know what you mean. smile And while I didn't directly talk to you about it, I did think about you when I purchased this:

Lo and behold, you were the first to respond when I threaded about it. lol

That is a good one, ain't it? My parents listened to 5th Dimension when I was a kid (just posted in another thread). Deee-Lite sampled that song on a track from Dewdrops in the Garden.

First off, I must commend you on even writting this thread. It says a lot about your character. Sadly, so many people may be impressed by someone's thought process, knowledge of certain topics, etc., but they won't acknowledge it if their life depended on it. Which is too bad, really. My little brother in spirit, Meloh 9 started this band of cats who happens to all be musicians on the org and who all lurk in this section. He called them (The Verge). Meloh, myself, The Audience, Paligap, Psykosoul, Okaypimpin. Not only do we bond because we're all musicians, but because we share very similar tastes in music that goes way outside of Prince. So, we are constantly giving praises to each other and along the way, hipping each other or reminding each other of certain things. And having each others back, so to speak. So, what your thread is about, is sort of what The Verge is about. We do that all time, I think. And by the way, The Ohio Players album, "Honey" was probably clicked on by myself or psykosoul, being we are hardcore Ohio Players fanatics.

The Org only influences my Prince purchases. I got 'The Undertaker' and 'Small Club' CDs based on threads I read in the Prince music forum.

The only other artist I bought since joining the Org that I first saw here was Van Hunt. And that purchase was based on other research I did on him, but yeah the Org mentioned him first.

Funny you say that, cuz I was thinking it was one of the two of you who made the recommendation. smile

And I always give credit where credit is due. I'd like to think I make all my decisions on my own, but I listen to people's advice in all areas - like the Ohio Players album. I even posted afterwards to say how much I liked it. I was guessing this thread wouldn't get a whole lot of response for the very reason you stated. Time will tell...

Both Supernova and Manki influenced me to check out (and enjoy)
Mandrill.

And Davideye's continual enthusiasm for EWF has made me appreciate them more.

I was always just a casual fan of Bowie, till I saw some of the reverence around him on the Org, which has caused me to check out some of his stuff like Heroes and Station to Station more thoroughly.

My mom got me hooked on Neil Diamond and The Bee Gees though...

David Eye has hipped me to a lot of stuff. I finally picked up Teena Marie's "La Dona" last weekend. It's OK but dammitt, I want some funk by Teena.

Both David Eye and The Real Finess informed me that the long version of Donna Summer's "Love To Love You Baby" was actually on her album and not a 12 Inch. I ordered that right before Halloween and the damned thing still hasn't come in yet.

I bought "Santa Claus Is A Black Man" this past Christmas thanks to The Audience for informing me that it was on a complilation called "A John Water's Christmas".

RipHer2Shreds told me that "I Love You More" was done by Rene and Angela and I picked up their greatest hits CD a few months ago. I'm still looking for Dolly Parton's disco song, "Baby I'm Burnin'".

I also picked up the 2 CD deluxe edition of Diana Ross's "Diana" after hearing such good things about it from RipHer2Shreds and David Eye.

I picked up D'Angelo's Voodoo when it was being discussed to death on the Org. I tried probably six times to sell it back, and it was in perfect condition. I didn't like it and neither did any of the used record stores I took it to!
