Rap star Snoop Dogg accused of rape


Rapper Snoop Dogg has been accused of raping a woman in his dressing room.

The alleged victim claims to have been sexually assaulted by the entertainer and his friends following the recording of a show for US television network ABC News.

She alleges she was drugged before being sexually assaulted by the rapper, who played Huggy Bear in the recent Starsky and Hutch film, and four of his associates. She is seeking £13 million in combined damages.

The complaint was filed at Los Angeles Superior Court just weeks after Snoop Dogg (real name Calvin Broadus) filed a pre-emptive lawsuit claiming he was the target of an extortion scheme hatched by the woman in question, the website reports.

The 12-page complaint details the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack in January 2002 when Snoop Dogg co-hosted the Jimmy Kimmel Live television show.

The legal documents name ABC News, the Kimmel show, and the Walt Disney Company as defendants, alleging the network is partly liable for the attack because the entertainer's dressing room was stocked with "large quantities" of champagne and marijuana.

The morning after the incident, the alleged victim claims she told family members about the assault, but was advised not to report it to police because the rapper was a gang member and "would send someone to kill her".

Four months later, according to the complaint, she contacted the Kimmel programme and told them she had been sexually assaulted at the show and was calling the police.

Both sides made an attempt to mediate the dispute in October 2004. This month they agreed to settle at a financial sum less than originally recommended by the mediator, according to the lawsuit. The alleged deal fell apart on January 18 when the rapper's insurance company refused to "pay a portion of the compensation previously promised" by his legal team, the papers state.

Snoop Dogg's publicist branded the accusations "untrue" and vowed to fight them in court.

I have never liked this guy. I believe that everyone deserves their day in court, however. It could be a case of trying to get money out of a rich rapper with a bad rep, but I will not be the least bit surprised if he's found guilty. He's always given me the creeps. I wouldn't want him to be found guilty if he wasn't, but I'd like to see this fucker brought down a notch or two.

Personally, I don't believe Snoop raped this woman. Note, this is a civil case and not a criminal one. And it's occuring after Snoop filed a case against her for extortion.

I cannot believe the stupidity of some of the remarks here. I am grateful that there are some voices of reason, stating that even men who have 'access to plenty of hot women' can still be rapists. There is even a possibility that these men are so used to this they won't take no for an answer.

The remark about singling out African-Americans as stated above is also a bit dubious, bordering on racist. Just because these people are from a certain race does not make it a race issue; it's a justice issue.

I am so tired of people holding hands above a suspect just because they like the songs of the suspects. Neither do I like people who judge these people because they don't like their music.

Fact is that both men are accused of crimes that I think should earn them lots and lots of jailtime if convicted.

I dont believe he did this. Y would he rape someone that he already filed extorsion against? That is very stupid and you have to have the mind of a child to commit that.

So far I've heard nothing as real evidence other than an acusation that he raped that woman. There is no reason to believe it yet. Possible killer does not equal rapist in my book. They are very different crimes. In Snoop's case, one was gang motivated. The other has no supporting evidence.
Does anyone in this country ever remember innocent until proven guilty? Nobody ever said Snoop was a nice guy, but damn - seems like every couple of days a black celeb gets accused of rape. Its starting to seem like a pattern. Why aren't there any white celebs getting accused of rape? Can you REALLY believe every woman that cries rape on a celeb without first asking for proof? Come on. I'm just being real here.
