"Aguas De Marco" Antonio Carlos Jobim and Elis Regina

Anybody that watches Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block has probably seen the Sealab 2021 bumper where white Debbie and Marco sing this brazialian pop song to each other. It's pretty funny because it obiviously isn't and has nothing to do with anything (I actually saw the episode it's from). The song is called "Aguas De Marco" by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Elis Regina. It's very catchy, even though I don't know Portuguese. The guy singing kind of sounds like Erik Estrada when he speaks, which almost made me think they were singing the song. Anyway, is anyone familar with this song, the artist or similar music? I'm almost interested in getting a CD with it.

Jobim is amazing. I bought his 'Finest Hour' Best of. 'Aguas de marco' is also closing theme of Jerry Seinfeld's 'Comedian' which has one of the best OST, IMO.

I'd be pretty shocked if the "Sealab" guys watched "Comedian" and got the idea from there.

I LOVE this song!! This and other Jobim & Gilberto classics!!! This bossa nove type style of jazz is really all I listen to these days, though my ultimate favorite would have to be Corcovado!! "Oh, how lovely!!!" smile

GREAT SONG!!!!! I've heard one or two people call the song corny but I've always thought the song was beautiful and playful actually. Jobim was an awesome songwriter. Depending on which copy or which album you get it on it comes w/lyrics in Portugese and English. Great way to learn Portugese!
I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

actually, a lot of artists have remade Aguas De Marco or "waters of march"

aside from the original and the mccorkle version, some good renditions are

al jarreau/oleta adams

david byrne/marisa monte
(you can find this on "red hot + rio"...which have a lot of cool remakes of jobim songs by contemporary artists...[crystal waters: boy from ipanema; incognito: agua de beber; sting/jobim: how insensative...just to name a few]

"I got my technique down and everything, I don't be tickling or nothin'."
