Hi Timefan wave

In a few weeks (February 4) I will be seeing Zapp in concert! They're performing in my area as part of a "Super Oldies" concert.Other acts on this bill include Heatwave,Evelyn Champagne King,The Manhattans and more.I've never seen Zapp in concert without Roger,so it should be a bittersweet experience.

Zapp without Roger could still be nice if the band is good and if they have a good new frontman. Of course it will never be the same without Roger but it can be fun anyway. I saw The Wailers without Bob Marley in 1991 and although it wasn't Bob Marley himself they had a good singer and the band was tight. A good time was had by all. Enjoy yourself, DavidEye, I wish I could be there with you! cool

It's true, they're playing. It wouldn't be the same though but I'd still like to see the show.

I think Terry Troutman (Zapp) is the new frontman. Zapp released 'VI - Back by Popular Demand' in 2004 so the band is still together although sadly without Roger and Larry Troutman.

I think it was a dispute over money but I'm not 100% certain.

cry Damn, I was bumping dude's music earlier. As far as my musical influences, Roger is definitely up there with James Brown, Sly Stone, George Clinton, Stevie, Prince, and MJ, and he was the last true funk artist. Other that "Atomic Dog" by George, the funkiest stuff from the 80s came from Roger, with Prince coming in at a close second.

I agree, Roger's music was more funkier than Prince's during the 80's. If Roger and Prince worked together that would have been awesome. I know Zapp were on the 1981 'Controversy' tour but I asked Dez Dickerson on his forum if Prince and Roger worked together and he said to his knowledge they never did.
