Kid Rock needs a tall glass of SHUT THE HELL UP! ROCK LEAVES PUBLISHER AP
Rocker Kid Rock has split from his publisher, because he wants a partner company focused on music rather than money. The singer, who has fulfilled his contractual obligations to Warner Tamerlane, accuses the company of being more interested in share prices than creativity. Rock says, "We've had a great run, and we'll miss many of the individuals at Warner's publishing company. We wish them all the best." The 34-year-old, who is still contracted for three more albums with Warner, adds, "Labels like Atlantic and Warner Chappell aren't the great music labels they used to be. They're just businesses now. "I've been fortunate to make a lot of money and to have a great fan base, so now my focus is on just making music." Like Kid Rock cares about music :eyeroll: This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Please who do I look like baby...yesterday's fool... Christian Zombie Vampires

*shrugs* I don't see the humor either. Kid Rock has fans the same as others like 50 Cent and Snoop have fans. I hate all of them, but I realize that others like that kind of shit and will always buy it. I think Kid does care about music very much, but he certainly doesn't play the kind of music I like or that I think is good.

Musically, I'm not a huge Kid Rock fan,but I'm impressed that he wants to experiment with his sound and doesn't feel the need to make more money. I mean there is nothing wrong with making money, but at some point sales can't be the end and be all of "art" or a measure of its relevance, value or success. So if he felt that profits were all Warner Tamerlane was interested in, well maybe it was time for a change.
I've read that the profit issue is also a problem with new artist development. Labels aren't will to take the time to nurture potentially successful artists if they don't have at least moderate success from the get go. That's a shame coz many artists need time to develop and mature. Just think of all the really good music out there that doesn't get major label support because it's not as commercial as the top Billboard sellers. On a side note, I was very impressed that Kid Rock participated in the Tribute to Johnny Cash that was aired on CMC. He seems to be very interested in honoring and working with music legends. That's pretty cool.

It's not funny. But I find that artists like Kid Rock talking about being creative and it's all about the music to be asinine.
I agree with what he says about the industry, however these folks get sucked up into the machine knowingly...they have no one to blame but themselves. If they had integrity, they wouldn't have accepted the terms that they did with record contracts. I suppose I am tired of all of these types of "artists" who cry woe-is-me when the machine they bought into starts to turn on them. Maybe I have listened to the Purple one's talk about CONtracts etc a bit too much, but those words have stuck with me...and so has his struggle. I make music and not that I'd ever get offered a big contract or anything...but if I did...I'd certainly stick it out until I found a company with integrity...and there aren't that many out there. Dude with all doubts aside, you don't know Kid very well...
I might be one of the few that know and enjoy alot of Kids Music Kid started out in music by himself, a rebel from his rich family,(yah he was rich but he didn't get jack shit because it was his step dad. do the math) he's always been about music and creativity, the fact that when he was starting out he funded his albums himself, which i respect because he was no different from me and any other artist who was struggling to make a name for themselves but sadly when he signed to a label just like what happens to every other artist you get screwed... its not his fault, because he's wasn't knowledgable before, like us Prince maniacs who know that the industry is dark because of what has happened to P, Just like every artist, they don't read label contracts, they just give full faith to the label, like that you become a label lackey, but when its time for you to do the things you do your screwed... and they'll drop you ... you don't have to like Kid Rock, but he is an artist, trying to achieve creative freedom that goes for any artist thats been Offered the preverbial Golden Parachute in return for their creativity its a shady business, kid just another one of the victims

Yea, and Prince cares just about music thats why he teamed up with Clear Channel to do Musicology tour but hey lets go after Kid Rock because then we would have to come to the realization that our idol cares just as much about the monetary value as 50 cent does.
I wonder what the NPG is getting paid now after being with them for 4 years. Is it still band wage? Thats what I heard. Sometimes this forum cracks me up in a good way. Its never always just about the music if you make a music video and have a auditorium tour. Its about something more. The artist just want as many people has possible to hear their music. It is a lot easier to accompolish that with a large label. The big 3 labels have lock on distribution and radio air-play that it just to hard for a independent company to compete. Prince tried it and it did not work but, I think using a label to handle the marketing and distrubution is the only why any artist is going to get some freedom. I don't like Kid Rock either and he once joked about Prince claims against the industry. It is interesting that once the CD's stop selling or a artist wants to go in a different direction they are all of sudden have an issue and can see were P was coming from.

Does anyone see the irony in someone saying Kid Rock needs to shut the hell up?
The truth alot of fans dont want to realize is Prince is similar in alot of ways to Kid Rock aside from the musical brilliance and the fashion sense. Notice everyone goes to crickets when you mention the band wage and why Prince has a turnover of musicians. I got to admit the way he has kept Blackwell there is working like a charm. But sooner or later when they see in 2005 their pay isnt going up, they are going to get a little testy. And Laura, he has a choice to team up with Clear Channel or not. He could have easily done smaller venues instead of going for the cash cow that his MANAGEMENT helped talk him into because the money was there. The point is Prince is materialistic and narcissistic as any of these ROCK STARS.How many people has he jilted on paying for their services? ANYONE want to take a crack at that? And how many times do fans say "Oh they are just whining" So whats the point in filing a public suit. The fans wont believe that Prince skips the bills on Kevin Smith went out there for a week and didn't get paid for his time. He didnt sue paisley park for not getting money for his valuable time. He didnt make a big deal. And this joker just had him shoot footage for no pay. Thats the way Prince works yet fans have this image burned into their mind about how Prince is. Hate to shatter it but Prince and Kid Rock have alot more in common than just girls and music. Its the Truth and you got to live with it sooner or later.

If we could drag all of the quotes of Prince whining about his situation it would fill for pages and pages.
The truth about Prince is the more he gets the more unhappy he gets and just finds a scapegoat the reason why he is unhappy. Even with all this money and fame, you will see in 2005 Prince will be talking about morality in music. This from a man who made a song about having sex with his half sister. Then the fans start miming what Prince says about morality in music. I don't recall you seeing that when 18 n over came out. And the funniest thing of all is 50 percent of the fans on the org Parrot what he does. NPGMC is parrot central. It's like they cant separate enjoying the music from the man himself. It's kind of sad and it doesn't help the man it imprisons him in this distorted illusion. If Kid rock wrote Slave on his face, I would see a post that said "Shut the Hell up" if prince had never done it If Kid Rock complained about being a slave if prince didnt do it, same reaction And whats even more bizarre is this fixation that fans honestly think PRince lives up to this image of what he says in his music, the fans believe to be true. This whole forum needs to be checked for some of the things I see on the daily.

Yep. That's the truth. Clear Channel is scary. It has too much control. I don't want to start a new post for this comment, so I'll just add on. There are artists that at one point just don't care about commericial success. Eric Clapton released Me and Mr. Johnson, a tribute to his blues idol Robert Johnson, just for the sake of honoring his idol. Some artists actually do get tired of making music just for the money. Like I said, Kid Rock seems to have been trying to change his image for a while now, appearing on the Johnny Cash tribute, and also performing with Sheryl Crow. Maybe he is really being sincere. As far as Prince is concerned, I don't know. He went through a number of years WITHOUT a major "hit," so maybe he decided to just go for the money with the success of Musicology. Plus there are egos involved. I mean, I'm sure Prince is proud that his tour is #1, and his cd is a commericial and critical success. It's nice to be acknowledged for your work. To be honest, the general public is more often than not impressed with the middle-of-the-road, not something that is experimental. So I'm sure much of Prince's unreleased material might not have a chance of selling well, and an artist of his caliber can't afford too many successive "failures" without being called a has-been. Also, I thought Prince's major beef with his music company was complete ownership of his work??? [Edited 1/28/05 20:18pm]

I dont think Kid Rock is horrible.. I like a few of his songs.. BUT i do think he is loving the fact he has money.. I doubt he would rather be playing his guitar in his trailer in the trailer park right about now..
