Thanks man! Not sure how I feel about the song yet. It's nice enough. It just sounds really "mature" and Richard Marx-ish for him. Doesn't sound like a huge hit first single, you know. I know it'll grow on me though. I love the last minute or so of it. "Songs for Silverman" makes me think this is going to be a concept album of some sort.

Honestly? I dont think so.. I just think these were his strongest material out of all of it that him and his band created in that 6 week period...

I think it will be no doubt one of his best albums

6 week period? When was this six week period? Was it after all of those sessions for the EPs?

"Landed" continues to grow on me with each new listen. I think it's a great song lyrically. Very emotional.

well, Here is what I got out of the articles I've read recently..

He gave us a "taste" with all the ep's of how the new album will sound.. and initially, that was the idea..

It turned out that the ep's sound nothing like the new album.

When he was doin the sessions for the ep's.. He recorded and did just about every instrument.. the songs were in a skeleton period and havent been "polished" so to speak.

He then formed a small band and went to Nashville for about 6 weeks (in the fall) and recorded 9 of the 11 tracks with the band. There was two tracks left over, and he suggest to re-record them but was basically begged not to.. since they were perfect to begin with. those tracks are Gracie and Sentimental Guy.

The only track that was taken from the ep's is Give Judy My Notice, and its re-recorded

here's a tracklisting:

Bastard
You To Thank
Jesusland
Landed
Gracie
Trusted
Give Judy My Notice
Late
Sentimental Guy
Time
Prison Food

Thanks for the info! I didn't know about any of this, since his official site is never updated with anything about it. Sounds cool. I wouldn't be surprised if it sounds a bit like "The Autobiography of Reinhold Messner" which is perhaps his most accomplished, and emotional work.

The official Ben Folds newsletter was sent out this evening confirming the release dates of April 26th for "Songs for Silverman", February the 1st for the single Landed to appear on digital music download services (no official CD release - either Sony have embraced the future, or are hedging their bets!), and the release for the rumoured Whatever and Ever Amen re-release will be... ... March 22nd!

That's right - Sony have now officially confirmed not only a re-release, but a remaster, of Ben Folds Five's second album, and will be adding a total of SEVEN "lost classic bonus tracks", which I suspect might be mostly old B-sides. Incidentally, I'd love to ask Sony how a track can be both 'lost' and 'classic', but there you go.

So - dates to remember!

Feb 1st - Landed on digital music download
Mar 22nd - Whatever and Ever Amen + 7 extra tracks
Apr 26th - Songs for Silverman
