Hope for MPLS radio?

Mpls appears to have been blessed with a new radio station!

The station is 89.3 "The Current". It's a public radio station so NO COMMERCIALS!

Here's what they have to say about the format:
how would you describe the station's format?
89.3 The Current is a music station with a deep and wide playlist. The Current plays the best, authentic new music alongside music that explores roots and influences. The Current has a special emphasis on local musicians and groups, and will play local music in every hour. The Current will establish deep ties to the local music community and will serve as a positive force in building the creative economy of Minnesota.

There will be no commercials on 89.3. And since the station draws from the largest newsroom in the region, you'll also hear about things that are important to you.

I ONLY have a radio in my car (no casette player, no CD player, so this is VERY exciting for me!

So, those of you in MPLS- CHECK IT OUT!

Not in MPLS but curious? you can stream it at:
http://minnesota.publicra...hecurrent/

woot!

right?

I just sent them an "I love you" email, along with a gentle reminder that Prince is technically a "local artist" so they should delve into some of his non-hit material. We'll see!

The only problem with their playlist that I can see is that it seems too eclectic. Though some of us have a wide range in musical tastes, most people do not. I would think most people would like to skip a lot of that stuff. I wonder if the selection is going to narrow in the future.

I'm assuming your referencing Mary Lucia?

On my drive home she was in between songs and chattered about "in radio you often want to hear a certain song but aren't allowed to play it. Well, I finally work for a station where I can play what I want right when I want to hear it. So, here's the song I want to hear at 20 to 5 today. I'm thinking some of you will like it."

And she played David Bowie's Young Americans. And I about drove off the road in excitement. It's weird, I'm actually listening to them online instead of a CD. WHEEEE!
