The Gap Band & Total Experience Record Label

The Gap Band and Yarbrough & Peoples were previously on Mercury Records. The first time I ever saw the label, Total Experience, was "The Gap Band IV" album. Shortly after that I saw "Do Something" by Goodie (anyone remember that one) on that label. Then I saw Yarbrough & Peoples.

I notice the sleeves from the 12 Inch Singles, said Polygram. Con-Funk-Shun and The Barkays were also on Mercury (where The Gap Band originally was) but their 12 Inch sleeves said Polygram. Another group with that same 12 Inch record sleeve was Kool & The Gang on De-Lite Records.

Did Polygram buy Mercury and De-Lite? Also, was Total Experience The Gap Band's label, kinda like Prince's Paisley Park, which was still Warner Brothers?
Andy is a four letter word.

Thumparello

The Gap Bamd is funky!

Micheal "Clip" Payne did the mix to the 12inch version of Drop the Bomb On Me. Ghost mixer...

Naw Total Experience as a record company was more sucessful than Paisley as a label for sucessful acts. Paisley probably made more money opening its studio up to other recording acts to record their music.

De-Lite was a small indie label from Jersey in the early 60s there wasnt many acts on De-Lite.. accept Kool & the Gang and Crown heights Affair. PGD aka Polygram group distribution aqcuired Mercury,De-lite,Motown. into the late 90s. up until Universal ( devils) did a hostile takeover. Total Experience was a subsidiary of Mercury smile
