Kelly Clarkson - the only AI with potential?

I think the first one out of the mould is going to be the best. With the exception of "Miss Independent", the first record was pretty blah. I recently heard "Since U Been Gone" on the radio, and I have to say besides Green Day's "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" and John Mayer's "Daughters", it's the only current hit I can stomach. A nice sleek pop song - they don't make those much anymore. Good voice, co-writes some songs, and she can sing live, too. So that's at least 3 things going for her.

The reason I say she's the only one with potential is that she's the only one who seems to have successfully shed the AI adult contempo booby trap. Clay and Ruben seem completely defined by the show, and Fantasia's album was just.....not good. I hope she recovers with her next.

Has anyone listened to Kelly's Breakaway album in full?

She seems like the only genuine aritst of the one's with records out (time will tell for Fantasia). And while I'm not sure if her sales are gangbusters, I think you'll continue to pull down respestable numbers. I was sort of tempted to buy her last CD but haven't yet (might be worth looking for it on Ebay or Used in a record store). I like the two singles. Her stuff appears to be rock edged but she doesn't act like Avril, so it's cool.

Kelly was a good AI choice. I like some of Fantashia's material. But to me THE most talented AI performer was and is Trenyce, who got no respect during her AI tenure and is trying to forge a career as far away from AI as she can.

I agree! I was shocked at the gym this morning to find myself liking that new song. It's certainly better Avril than the crap Avril put out from her latest.

Take it from someone who loathes Ashlee, Avril, Ryan Cabrera and most of the pseudo-hard core teen tarts.....

The Kelly record is pretty good. Every song is a perfectly crafted pop song with some rock guitar sprinkled in. I like her because she doesnt try to forge a fake rock image to go with the sound....she's a true singer who can sing just about any style and seem unpretentous at the same time. I ended up buying BREAKAWAY (I was embarrassed to beleive me...it was like buying porn...I sandwiched it betwen Seals hits collection and Green Day.) But I gotta say the girl has chops and the album serves it's purpose as a finely crafted pop album.

Dont be shy...go check it out...

Thanks thumbs up! The reviews have been quite good, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a complete wash.

I'll definitely check it out.

Do award show announcers still call her "American Idol" Kelly Clarkson?
