When will a Sly & The Famliy Stone box set be released?

The folks at Columbia Records, right at the time the released and promoted The Essential Sly, they promised that they were going to work on a box set and they were going to release it sometime in 2004. Where is it? I'm dying to hear some unreleased and rare stuff, especially some of the recording session for 1971's There's A Riot Going On. I had bought their Essential collection back in 2003, and don't get me wrong, it is very definitive, but I just want something a little more comprehensive. They need to do something like Nirvana's box set. What do you think?

I don't think a boxed set is exactly what I'm looking for, more like an outtakes compilation. Sly & the family stone is what I like to call an album-act, ie a group/artist that I'm too into to settle for compilations and would rather appreciate an album at a time (or even a song at a time)

Oh yes Manki.

You can get 2 Little Sister tracks on CD on the following compilations though already :

Funk Drops 2 (Warners) - 'Stanga'
Danny Krivit Presents Grass Roots (Strut, UK) - 'You're The One' (Tom Moulton Mix)

Both amazing songs from amazing compilations. Seek them out.

For Sly fans there is a really rare track on the lastest Funk Drops release 'Funk Drops 3' released in 2004. It's a track by Sly under the guise '6ix' & the track is called 'I'm Just Like You', released on his Stone Flower label (as were the 'Little Sister' tracks) in 1970. It's very very 'Riot' sounding track. wink
The Funk, the whole funk & nothin' but the funk, ya dig?!

re the 6IX track, it's actually a different unreleased mix that's on the "Funk Drops" compilation.

Good stuff. Any idea if the original version has ever been released on CD anywhere?
