Ashlee, in denial, blames Orange Bowl mess on everything but inability to sing

http://www.mtvasia.com/Ne...11548.html

Ashlee Simpson had wanted to start 2005 with a clean slate, but as her first appearance of the new year demonstrated, not everyone is as eager to put her SNL snafu behind her as she is. You'd think being booed in such a public forum as the Orange Bowl would be traumatic, but the singer/actress insists she's unfazed.

"There was some booing that went on after the halftime show was finished," she said. "If they didn't like the performance, and that's what it was about, then sorry to them."

Some have said Simpson was booed at Miami's Pro Player Stadium because the rowdy crowd of 72,000 wasn't the same age bracket as Simpson's teen audience. Others have said it was payback for SNL, for her being a bad sport, walking off the stage and later blaming her band for a miscue. Still others have complained that she just sounded bad. But Simpson has a few theories herself about why boos were heard following the closing line of her song "La La," "I want to hear you scream!"

"Maybe they were booing at me, maybe they were booing at the halftime show 'cause the whole thing sucked," she said. "I was facing [the Oklahoma Sooners], and I was rooting for USC, and they played a clip of it, so maybe it was that those people didn't like me. You never know. But I can't make everybody happy."

Simpson also pointed out that for this performance, the circumstances were less than ideal.

"There were no ear monitors when we went onstage," she said. "No floor monitors. And trying to sing in a stadium where you can't hear yourself is kinda hard. My sister [Jessica] was like, 'I don't know how you just did that! I performed in stadiums, and if I didn't have my ears, I would have freaked.' "

Still, Simpson said she's learned a lot from both the SNL and Orange Bowl experiences, with the biggest lesson being that she has to "keep pushing forward and being really strong, and no matter what you go through, fight through it." After all, she said 2004 wasn't all bad — her reality show was a hit, as was her debut album, Autobiography, which ended up being one of the top 10 best-selling albums of the year.

"I go from having a #1 album and things going great and all of a sudden something like SNL happens and boom! You're faced with how mean people can be and criticizing you and stuff," she said. "But I've learned a lot about myself through all of this. It's like, I'm not perfect and I'm not going to be perfect. I'm still 20, and a new artist, and I will only grow. And I look forward to continuing to not listen to what one person says and making good music."

I heard this bizarre rumour....

People actually spend their money... meaning, their own personal money, which they have earned by working.... to PURCHASE Ashlee Simpson's CD... and then they LISTEN to it for, get this, ENTERTAINMENT.

Surely it's not so..... surely we haven't got to that level yet..... I just don't get people. I honestly don't.

My favourite part: "maybe they were booing at the halftime show 'cause the whole thing sucked."

Nice way to compliment the other performers, Ashlee! Kelly Clarkson was a real trouper with the audio problems, I thought.

That's so true.

Look at how his thrusting of Ashlee into the music business has caused all those prepubescent children out there who've purchased Ashlee's CDs to - in their innocence of what constitutes actual talent - think she actually is a representation OF talent and good music! What a way to warp a child's mind! disbelief

I like Kelly Clarkson, really really dig her voice, she sounds like a more audible Christina Aguilera, has alot of soul and control than Christina.
Only problem with Kelly is she is a bit schizophrenic doesn't know if she want to be Avril or Christina. Maybe the only good thing Idol has produced
Well I do like Will Youngs second album confused

Ashlee's Deep Denial

Simpson sidesteps booing blame; Plus, Ashley parties, Madonna chants, and more

Jan. 12, 2005

Ashlee Simpson is fast becoming an expert at the blame game. After her lip-synching, square-dancing meltdown on "Saturday Night Live," she was quick to fault both the band and her pesky acid reflux.

Now, days after she received a resounding chorus of boos following an eardrum-shattering half-time performance at the Orange Bowl, she's once again running plays from the excuses handbook (a tome we're guessing was penned by dad Joe Simpson), and she's pointing the fickle finger of responsibility at everyone but herself.

"If they didn't like the performance, and that's what it was about, then sorry to them," a deep-in-denial Ashlee pouts to MTV. "Maybe they were booing at me, maybe they were booing at the half-time show 'cause the whole thing sucked. I was facing [the Oklahoma Sooners], and I was rooting for USC, and they played a clip of it, so maybe it was that those people didn't like me. You never know. But I can't make everybody happy."

As for her much-mocked, off-key rendition of "La La" (its screechy denouement of "you make me wanna scream" is forever seared in our brain), Simpson blames that old-standby -- the sound equipment.

"There were no ear monitors when we went onstage," she complains. "No floor monitors. And trying to sing in a stadium where you can't hear yourself is kinda hard. My sister [Jessica] was like, 'I don't know how you just did that! I performed in stadiums, and if I didn't have my ears, I would have freaked.'"

But Ashlee says her recent trials and tribulations have helped her grow as a person, and she channels both Stuart Smalley ("I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me") and a popular bumper sticker ("Mean people suck") in dismissing her troubles.

"I go from having a No. 1 album ["Autobiography"] and things going great and all of a sudden something like 'SNL' happens and boom! You're faced with how mean people can be and criticizing you and stuff," she tells MTV. "But I've learned a lot about myself through all of this. It's like, I'm not perfect and I'm not going to be perfect."

For now, Simpson remains unconcerned about her seemingly shaky future. "I'm still 20, and a new artist, and I will only grow," she says optimistically. "And I look forward to continuing to not listen to what one person says and making good music." Good luck with that, sweetie.

You know if you like this crap just admit it. If the rest of us thinks she sucks that is our opinion. You also need to realize that CD's are double scanned and the amount of records sold well that is just the amount that was shipped out to the stores. There could be millions of Miss Simpson's CD sitting on record shevles. It is called Marketing and Scamming the public. Wake UP.

um.... i think you missed my point. I was being sarcastic. My point is that I can't believe that people would spend their hard-earned money on Ashlee Simpson, and actually listen to it for enjoyment.

But thanks for the wake up call, and the brief lesson in pop economics!! eek

Yeah....man, the BIG problem with all this newfangled sound equipment these days is that it reproduces the notes too much like you actually sang them. rolleyes But hey, look at the bright side, once her "singing" career folds, Skinemax will have a new star!
