New Book On Philly Soul: "House On Fire"

In case this wasn't already mentioned, there's a new 338 page book out on the Philly Sound, called "A House On Fire: The Rise And Fall Of Philadelphia Soul" by John A. Jackson

what happened was Gamble and Huff werent giving the artists proper royalties. and pocketing the revenue.Philly int'l was losing money and going bankrupt. alot of the records were recorded at Sigma sound labs. and u all know Sigma, is a very expensive place to record.

so Kenny and Leon didnt surprise me when they took the snake route and started fucking over well respected artists.. such as Billy Paul. Jean carne, the O'jays,Jones girls,Lou rawls, archie Bell, etc.etc Billy just won a suit againt Kenny and leon for unpaid royalties, as did the o'Jays.

Things were so bad that,in the early 80s,the O'Jays weren't even recording new material for the label. The label was near bankrupt and the funds weren't available to send them into the studio to record fresh material. As a result, several of the O'Jays albums in the early 80s consisted entirely of "previously recorded material".They simply raided the vaults, releasing second-rate material that was already old and outdated.

Since Gamble and Huff were the sole writers and producers for the bulk of it, how could they NOT hog royalties?
