Tyler Perry's "Madea" Stage Plays and Music

Has anyone seen any of Tyler Perry's stage plays or home videos? These shows are too damned funny. Tyler Perry dresses up like an old woman named Madea who smokes weed, carries pistols, and talks plenty of shit. I never would have known these were gospel plays until I heard the singing. The singing, by the way, is great also.

I know he's been staging his shows for some time but I've never seen one. I'm going to try and get a ticket to his new show which is coming to a town near me. There are a ton of these style of shows going around mostly acted by black actors or singers that were popular within the community, and they're quite good from what I've heard.

madea's family reunion was really good...D'Atra Hicks, who had a really good cd in the late 80's and has a voice that can rival the great Ms. LaBelle, is in it...very funny

I just watched the family reunion with my mom about a week ago. Madea is so crazy. She will protect the family even if she talks bad about them. I was cracking up when she shot the dog (not that the act itself was funny but her attitude and justification afterwards), and when she came out undressed and she's just sagging around the chest.
"Madea goes to jail" will be playing at the Paramount Theater this Thursday the 13th - Sunday the 16th. Mom wanted to see it, but she didn't want to pay like $45 or however much the cost. We'll just wait for the dvd or bootleg. Plus we need to find class reunion. Is that on dvd?

D'Atra Hicks? Is she the one who wore the heavy makeup and basically had a Patti LaBelle like 'do? My mom talked bad about her makeup, which was quite scary.

"Diary of A Mad Black Woman" and "Meet the Browns" is funny as hell too. The movie version of Diary comes out this year with Kimerly Ellis, Cicily Tyson and Shamar Moore.

I still need to see ...Class Reunion.

I borrowed my sister's "Madea's Class Reunion" DVD last night and watched it. Cheryl "Pepsi" Riley is in this one. It's good but I like "Madea's Family Reunion" better. At the end of "Class Reunion", Madea reveals to her daughter that she got drunk years ago and that the neighbor, Mr. Brown, is her father.

I also watched the sequel, "Meet The Browns". I didn't care for this one too much. It is all about the next door neighbor, Mr. Brown, and his family. Madea's daughter is in this one meeting her new family. Madea is not in this one at all except for a phone call at the end where she is calling from jail, and that's just a picture of her with her recorded voice.

I want to see "Madea Goes To Jail". Now that should be pretty funny.

I like the funeral scenes in Meet the Browns.
You know that was Nicci Gilbert from Brownstone playing the ghetto momma.

Yeah, the show did have it's good moments and she made the show for me. She wore those wild clothes with the scarf around her head I love the part where the man told her "Don't come up in my house looking like Jimi Hendrix". falloff

My favorite is when she told her daughter:

"Girl, I don't even know who your daddy is. All I remember was a fifth of Henesey and a Sealy Posturepedic mattress. Girl, that was almost your name...Sealy Posturepedic". lol

Yes Madea is in all the ones I mentioned above. nod
He's about to release his first movie for one of his plays "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" in February 2005 starring Shemar Moore, Kimberly Elise, Cicely Tyson etc. Whatever you do, go to your local video store and rent the Tyler Perry play "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" before going to see the movie when it comes out in February. Here is a link for the movie http://www.diaryofamadbla...movie.com/

I saw "Madea's Class Reunion" for sale in a record store. It's a local chain called Be-Bop Records.

A friend of mine bought the bootleg VCR tape of "Family Reunion" off the street and I copied it. My sister, orders DVD's from Tyler Perry's website. I borrowed "Class Reunion" from her last weekend and, wouldn't you know it, the damned thing had copyguard on it. lol

I haven't been to Blockbuster in years but I would think they probably wouldn't have it.

Alright now, I have seen all of Tyler's plays. I must say that those play are some of the most ghetto fabalous plays that I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, the singing is great in the play but its overkill to me. I'm sorry but I just not feeling seeing this dude dressing up like a woman talking shit in a gospel play. If I want serious drag done well, I'll watch Rupaul.
