A-HA 1984-2004 Remastered CD appreciation thread Well Even though I had all these tracks, i just had to invest in this import that WEA has put out, basically to finalize the deal with AHA now that they are moving to Universal for the worldwide tour campaign. This collection spans the whole career of AHA to date, however it's focus is HEAVY on the first 5 years, which is cool but AHA is a very different band than the Key/Synth Pop band they were from 1984-1988, but they did create some Amazing Pop songs. But i think the best thing about this collection is the book, which features excerpts from the SWING OF THINGS book which is available through the AHA website, and is amazing!! But anyway the book points out how AHA viewed by America and others as a 1 hit wonder, have sold 27 million albums, and had 13 top 10 singles, and Top charts in 27 different countries. He calls AHA :the Most underrated Pop Geniuses of the last 20 years, I would have to agree EASILY! The book also points out how AHA since their SCOUNDREL DAYS record in 1986 have been at odds with each other over the direction of the Band. Now that all 3 members write, in the early days it was mainly Paul (guitars) that wrote, but now all write. SInce they all have that creative difference AHA recorded their last CD LIFELINES in 2002 totally without ever being in the studio together.
But today is a different story, I think with a new label and new backing AHA will be out and recording together. Their last 2 tours in 2000 and 2002 have sold out places in Russia, Germany and Obviously Norway, and many others in Europe. Things are very different indeed, now AHA are older and wiser and when they get the chance to play the USA this time they wont be those nervous kids in their 20's, they will be Morten (vocals) 45, Paul(guitars) 42, and Magne (keys,piano, bass)42, and the music is much more Mature and well written. As U can tell Im pushing AHA big time. I want them to get the same kind of respect now that a coldplay gets since that sound is Aha's. ALso Bands like KEANE and Snow Patrol owe alot to AHA. Even BONO has admitted that his "TOUCH ME" line in BEAUTIFUL DAY was paying homage to Morten and AHA's the Sun always Shines on TV. The CD is jammed with hits but to squeeze 20 years of AHA on one disc is impossible. I tried it, and between hits, demos, mixes, live tracks, album tracks, I have barely been able to keep it on 3. I finally picked up the new hits album, because I wanted to here the re-mastering. Songs of the first album sound much better, but from then on, its hard to improve on already well produced albums. Although the base really comes through nice on the first three albums stuff.
Its nice the have the single edits and remixes versions on CD for the first time. . | |

If I were putting it together there would be a CD of HITS a CD of Mis-Hits a CD of Demos and Rare stuff and a Cd of Live tracks and Faves and then a DVD as a bonus..... No, there are no plans for this to be released in the USA. Its available as an import in Import shops and Virgin Megastores. I found it here in NYC at a Great Import store called Record Runner which i have been going to for about 15 years now. Check them out at Http://www.recordrunnerusa.com But i agree "east of the Sun" is not very well represented on this package but that CD as with most of AHA's work has been highly underrated. Despite them selling 27 Million albums worldwide and having 13 of their 32 singles go top 10, most of that success occurred in their early days of the first 3 albums. I do feel their best work is yet to come, they have grown into a brilliant artistic band, that still is fighting to make their own mark and to escape their early days.
