Ashlee Simpson Booed at FedEx Orange Bowl

by Landon Howell Bio Email

They say that an elephant
never forgets. And apparently,
neither does the American
public.

Ashlee Simpson was booed at the conclusion of her performance during the
halftime show at the FedEx Orange Bowl between the Oklahoma Sooners and the
USC Trojans Tuesday night.

Ironically, Simpson chose not to use a background track (used by most artists in large-scale, live events). However, choosing to sing live didn't work out for Ashlee in the end. A very obvious chorus of boos could be heard throughout the Orange Bowl in Miami as the fireworks erupted, and Simpson's song came to an end Tuesday night.

Simpson's vocals were the talk of the town after her 'Milli-Vanilli' antics were exposed on Saturday Night Live in the Fall of 2004. Simson first blamed the incident on her band, only to later use acid reflux as the culprit.

Searches on the syncing serenader jumped 226%, vaulting her into our top three searches overall on Yahoo.com.

Actually, the part about the backing track was not completely true. I tuned in last night right in the middle of theperformance. There were parts during the chorus where you could clearly hear the recorded vocal in the background. Even with that, she still sounded like hot garbage. Good lord, if this download takes a few minutes, wait for it, 'cause it's worth it my friends.
P.S.- I would personally never boo a kid, but hopefully this sends a message (to all it may concern). smile

The problem with this child is she's been told all her life that every poo she took was just the greatest blessing to the Earth, so that's why, now, the general public has to get all Simon Cowell on her ass and set her straight.

lol A rude awakening I would not wish on anyone.
You know what? I'd love to see her rise above this. Go take some lessons, learn an instrument. The girl is still madd young. Well, I guess she'd have to actually give a crap about learning something first. confused When you watch that clip, you see a kid who's just up there howling and thinking that everything surrounding her is part of this grand package being presented. Then the boos.
"waaah, waaaahhh, waaaaahhhh....." Sorry Ashlee, not enough fireworks. neutral

And if the boos weren't enough of a total wake-up, then her handlers will calm her down with other delusions and excuses, because the child is spoiled beyond reason! disbelief

See, I just watched that clip, and she sounded worse than amateur, really! disbelief So my initial reaction is just embarrassment for her, but at the same time, I gotta laugh evillol because the whole reason she is playing halftime at a football game is because she has never been booed in her life.

I think it's about time she got a reality check, don't you guys?

This is great. Just what I love to hear. She deserves to be booed and so do many others that are just like her. Maybe if she got herself a new rack of double D's like her sister and died her hair blond no one would notice or care that she lipsyncs. Look at Britney, people actually like her and think she has talent. rolleyes

She got booed at the Billboard awards too, which I found odd since the crowd had just got done cheering Britney Spears earlier in the show.

i've been told that booing is never appropriate behaviour. i still disagree. i'm glad people are sending the message that they want something better.

now, if they'd just stop buying the records!

I would've preferred complete silence at the end of her song to booing. It's the people who promote her who deserve the boos, not her.

Watch that clip. You can hear the boos loud and clear. It even has an effect on the expression on her face when she's done. She stops smiling for a split second.....aaaand then goes back to smiling again (you chumps can't get me down! I'm a Simpson! biggrin )

Just because her sister is famous and can sing doesn't automatically mean Ashlee should be, too.

Not everybody's destiny is to be a celebrity/pop star, a fact of life I think Ms. Ashlee needs to face and accept the reality of. Well, let me qualify that - a reality both she AND her pervert father need to face. neutral

Speaking of overcommercialization, how bout the "FedEx" Orange Bowl, Staples Center, Pac Bell Park?

Whatever happened to the Fabulous Forum & Candlestick Park?

i have zero sympathy. screw ashlee simpson. she can console herself with her millions, while genuinely talented artists can't get a shot at the big time. she sings like an average high-school girl, no better, and her "rebel" image was concocted by her daddy, cause he thought it would work in contrast to her big sisters "diva" image. at least jessica can sing (to some degree).

I wonder if it was Ashlee's idea to follow in her sister's footsteps or her manager "stage-mom-type" dad's. Her dad seems pretty strong-willed. He just seems hell-bent on making his kid into "stars" no matter what the cost. Also, I read an article in the NYTimes about the guy. Apparently, he is looking for other kids to "mold" and promote. There is just something I don't like about him. The funny thing is that I believe I read he was a former pastor or a church youth director.

In addition to her dad, MTV seems to have been "supporting" Ashlee's brief career to a large extent. I agree that Ashlee seems to have taken on an "anti-Jessica" persona. Jessica is the blonde, sexy pop-star and Ashlee is the rock-chick-Bohemian-artist-unblonde little sister that kids without Jessica's assets relate to. Well, regardless of whether or not the girl is spoiled, it is kind of sad that she was booed. To me, college students wouldn't be Ashlee's fanbase anyway, so in a sense she was set-up for "failure." No doubt though, Ashlee really needs to work on her live performances coz right now she just doesn't have "it."

I read in the NY Times last year that the MTA and the City of New York are thinking about letting corporations change the names of the stations, so they can pay for the costs of maintaining the subways (largely its $1 billion dollar deficit). Grand Central Station? Union Square? Port Authority? No. Try GE Tunnel, Google Station, Nokia Station. eek
