AHA beyond underrated and not given their due

AHA are finishing up a New CD for USA release, it will be their first in the USA to be released since 1993's MEMORIAL BEACH. AHA to date have not a Charted single in the USA since 1986's CRY WOLF, they have had a few singles almost chart, but really were written off after their first CD was released. However all across EUROPE have maintained success, and more importantly have grown as artists. As good as TAKE ON ME is, its not something U wanna rest on, but because of the Video and the Image it was all that AMERICA could focus on. AHA are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of their NUMBER ONE world wide hit including the USA. Last Year UNIVERSAL signed AHA to a 3 album deal in the USA. AHA still has a strong following in EUROPE, mainly GERMANY, NORWAY (obviously) and some areas in ENGLAND. 2000's MINOR EARTH MAJOR SKY was picked as best Cd of 2000 by BONO, 2002's LIFELINES was another hit for them, and their last release HOW CAN I SLEEP WITH YOUR VOICE IN MY HEAD, a limited edition 2cd LIVE SET, that is from their 2002-03 Tour. Many thought this may be the end of AHA, but not even close, after this release AHA talk about touring again, and recording and their desire to play inside the US, a place that they last played in 1986. Their recording sessions for this new cd are underwraps and all 3 members are writing and recording seperately and together, kind of the way they usually do. Keyboard and Guitar Player for the band has said that Now he only Writes songs to be major statements, not to entertain, but to actually say something. If it doesnt say something why write it. AHA also has had their influence felt, Bands like COLDPLAY, KEANE, SNOW PATROL have all cited AHA as an influence and their sound is easily heard in these bands.

AHA

1985- HUNTING HIGH AND LOW
1986- SCOUNDREL DAYS
1988- STAY ON THESE ROADS
1990- EAST OF THE SUN WEST OF THE MOON
1991- HEADLINES and DEALINES the Best Of AHA
1993- MEMORIAL BEACH
2000- MINOR EARTH MAJOR SKY
2002- LIFELINES
2003- HOW CAN I SLEEP WITH YOUR VOICE IN MY HEAD

Between 1993 and 1998 Lead singer MORTEN HARKET recorded two SOLO records and guitarist PAL WAKATTER recorded 3 Cds with his wife and other band SAVOY. Keyboardist MAGNE (better known as MAGS) recorded a few Film Scores and did alot of ART work, and released recorded a SOLO record.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I admit I never heard anything after the debut, but even in 1985, they sounded, I dunno, kinda wimpy. And that's coming from someone who's first concert was Howard Jones! wink

East of the Sun, West of the Moon is one of my favorite albums of the past 20 years. Every track is killer. Especially Slender Frame.

I also really love Scoundrel Days.... sadly overlooked.

You missed off the 2004 album, "The Swing Of Things", although there were only 5000 copies printed.

Its a CD of the early demos and unreleased tracks. Hearing Hunting High And Low as a uptempo pop track had me eek

Since coming to the Org and learning that A-Ha was still recording, I've meant to pick up some of their later material. I've never made that happen though.

Were any of the later CDs released in the US? Or am I looking at pricey Import fees to buy them?

Seriously, they are underrated. But maybe I should start listening to the other stuff they did after "Hunting High & Low".

I just have to agree on this topic. SCOUNDREL DAYS is a great album but it's the only one I have. Nice one to the dude who's posted their album output of late because i do mean to catch up with them.

A-ha's songs to me are some of the best I've ever heard and the song 'Soundrel Days' would be in my all time top ten songs without a doubt.

They're really underrated as musicians and as song writers.

I really do hope that i can catch them live soon!!!
