"Family Affair" Appreciation Thread

I'll take the torch for this one...

I am a huge Sly & The Family Stone fan and "Family Affair" is like

my reflection song when certain events with my family and/or friends come to

mind and when they are all acting like.....

(fill in the blank) can't describe it sometimes, but then again whose family

is perfect? Or certain events in my life that make me laugh, cry or both.

I like the rhythm machine (early version of a drum machine) and

the wah-wah clavinets and keyboards used in the song are unique as only Sly

could do it. His words and what he's talking about strikes me to. It's

amazing to read about this timeframe in Sly's life and his influences were

around during the making of "Riot" which was guns, drugs, women ,drugs, music

other musicians, drugs... Regardless of his imbalances with his success and

the drugs, he made a very melodic and beautiful song.

Love the song

and it inspired alot of Madonna's Like a Prayer Album...

so much so it's used as the intro to Keep It Together on the BAT tour
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

One of the first pop songs to use a drum machine. "Riot" is definitely a favorite of mine. nod

Absolutely heart this song! This is my singing in the shower song, singing it the way I imagine T-Boz (TLC) would.
