No Kelis "Top 10" thread would be complete without at least paying nod to her many collabos.

(In no real order)

01. Ol' Dirty Bastard - Got Your Money (feat. Kelis) (1999)
02. Dane Bowers - This Must Be Love (feat. Kelis) (2001)
03. Timo Maas - Help Me (feat. Kelis) (2002)
04. Richard X - Finest Dreams (feat. Kelis) (2003)
05. Angie Martinez - Take You Home (feat. Kelis) (2002)
06. Outkast - Dracula's Wedding (feat. Kelis) (2003)
07. Noreaga - Cocaine Business (feat. Kelis) (2000)
08. N*E*R*D - Truth or Dare (feat. Kelis) (2002)
09. Guru - Supa Love (feat. Kelis) (2000)
10. Beenie Man - Jamaica Way (feat. Kelis) (2000)

This is off-topic, but I have to say this...

If you ever go to Kelis fan site or fan communities, you'll hear people refer to Kelis fans as Kelis Kids <--- I coined that term back in 2002.

I used to post a lot on the Kelis.com board back in 2001-02 and I came up with the term "Kelis Kids" to describe the loyal Kelis fans that posted in the Kelis.com board circa 2001-02, the name stuck and now it's a regular term used all over the world to describe a Kelis fan.

Most of the hate in here is largely attributed with folks being unfamiliar with her work. Anyone that caught wiff of Kelis post-Milkshake, automatically zoom into that song (or her "I Hate You So Much Right Now" chant) like its the only stuff the woman did. It's obvious that most of the hate comes from heads that just started to pay attention to Kelis when "Milkshake" was big. She DOES have a body of work that's deserving of a Top 10... and it's damn good. She's largely been a cult urban music figure from 1999-2002 (during that time she made stuff that was very leftfield and different from anything that was on urban radio). When Kaleidoscope dropped in 1999, it sounded like NOTHING on your urban radio dial. It still has that "bugged out, WTF" feel to it. So, I don't take it to heart when heads diss her because they don't even have a rational picture of who Kelis is as an artist. The style of Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. was already explored on Kaleidoscope and Wanderland... and to be real, Kelis did a better job and the fantastical, bugged-out "rebel girl" thing.

ITA. What people don't realize is that she is not just some hook girl who the Neptunes decided to give some beats to... she is actually talented...(and I'm a fierce critic...Music major...)Kelis is trained in violin, piano and saxophone ,was in The Girls Choir of Harlem as a child, and even went to La Guardia with a drama concentration...she didn't just wake up one day and decided she wanted to perform, she's been doing this her whole life. While I don't think she has the best singing voice I've heard, she's at least creative and different from all of the other chicks out there.Suffice it to say I was saddened when she went all commercial and changed her image and sound for Tasty...she's still my girl though.ok..here's my list...

1.Scared Money
2.Millionare
3.Get Along With You
4.Caught Out There
5.In the Morning
6.Popular Thug
7.Suspended
8.Oasis(unreleased Tasty track)
9.Young,Fresh n' New
10.Get Even

Honorable Mention*Just Like Candy-Foxy Brown and Kelis
*Milkshake(it's darn catchy you have to admit) cool
*Keep It Down
*Wouldn't You Agree
*Easy Come,Easy Go
*Mr UFO Man
*Perfect Day
*Shooting Stars

Wanderland is my Favorite too! biggrin

"Oasis" was a cool little Tasty tablescrap, so was "Running Mate" (they were decent songs, but I can see why they were left off of the album). "Freak Me Slow" was decent as well.

I have yet to hear "Guilty Girl."

I know this isn't a complete list of all her guest appearance, but I assume you didn't like her duets with Moby and Enrique Iglesias.

The entire Richard X album is really good.

"Honey" was whatever and so was Enrique's track. I wasn't feeling them too much. I also wasn't feeling that mess she made with Loon and Puff Daddy either ("Let's Get Ill").

You know, I think I'm going to check out the Richard X album further because I really enjoyed the tracks I heard -- "Finest Dreams (f/Kelis)" and "You Used To (f/Javine)." Do you recommend any other tracks from that album?

I forgot about "Let's Get Ill" and I have the record, lol! The Deep Dish remix is cool, but Puffy saying the same thing over and over for eight minutes gets a little tiresome.

The Richard X album is great if you like mashups/electroclash. It has his number one U.K. hit "Freak Like Me" featuring the Sugababes which isn't quite as good as his original with Adina Howard's vocals played over Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?" but that's what happens when you want to do something legally. Other highlights:

"Being Nobody" - a remake of "Ain't Nobody" using samples from The Human League's "Being Boring".

"You (Better Let Me Love Me Love X4) Tonight" - featuring Tiga on vocals.

"Into U" - Features Jarvis Cocker on vocals and samples Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You".

The album also has remakes of Lil' Louis' "Club Lonely" (featuring Caron Wheeler) and Bacharach's "Walk On By".

I do like mashups. I remember I used to didn't like them, but clubbing in the East Village over the summer helped change my mind.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'm going to check these tracks out.

Has this man been rummaging through the contents of my mind because I love Lil' Louis' "Club Lonely," Caron Wheeler, "Ain't Nobody," Kelis, Javine, and a lot of the original work he's using. It's eerie how on point he is with this.

Whoops, I meant to type The Human League's "Being Boiled". I must have been thinking about the Pet Shop Boys when I wrote that.
