Britney Spears VS Debbie gibson

Debbie Gibson was the 80's britney (or was that tiffany?) and even though Debbie is alot cheesier, that was because she basically started teen dance pop. Like Britney spears sorta did again.

I like a few Britney tracks, but Debbie wins hands down (her tousers) (?). None of debbies albums r good all the way through, but then she wrote her own stuff on her first couple of albums thus u get alot of samey tracks.

Britney may now seemed to be aimed at an older audeince aswell as young and whilst debbie was not, I hope some could look past that as her songs r well crafted, very happy piced of fluff.

Debbie did great ballads too. "foolish beat" "lost in ur eyes" "no more rhyme" "goodbye" "one hand, one heart".

My fav Debbie songs:-

"only in my dreams"
"shake ur love" (possibally the goofiest track ever!)
"staying together"
"electric youth" (dance moves in video r errr good)
"losin' myself" (good adult song actually)
"shock ur mama" (debbie does Newjack)
"love or money" (debbie does newjack again!)

britney songs i really dig:- " "

None at the mo' but then I hated debbie when she was popular so things might change.

I think Debbie deserves more props now. I have grown to like her.

Check out the cheese on that pic! Debbie though did not have sex appeal, and u did not need it back then. She was still hot though. In her own innocent/geeky way.

Props to Debbie. Britney ain't shit compared to her.

Truthfully, when I first heard " Only in my dreams ", I thought it was the coolest song on the radio, really popfunky and danceable. This is an easy choice just based on the fact Deborah ( as she is now ) wrote her own songs, and couldn't be molded into a sex symbol teenie bopper during her peak. Debbie( orah ) Gibson is my choice.

I like both, but Debbie...excuse me...Deborah Gibson is clearly the more talented of the two. She also has the distinction of being the youngest person to write, produce and perform a number one song - Foolish Beat. I cried real bitch-ass teenage tears to that song when it was first out cry

I think her first album, Out of the Blue is still a very good pop album. The first single, Only in My Dreams is one of my fave pop tunes from the 80s.

"only in my dreams" almost personifies childhood innocence to me. No sexual overtones, just a very catchy, gorgeous pop track. I like her voice on this track too.

I miss songs like "electric youth" and "only in my dreams"! Big hits that did not really on the power of sex to sell. Check that ballad britney did, it just had to be provocative didn't it? This may not be britneys fault entirely (though she started the solo sex objset thing i guess), but her sex appeal really annoys me. The innocense that young kids got with Debbie is now gone. No wonder kids grow up faster and faster sad

It seems a shame that even though iam only 19, I already feel that music when i was 5 or 6, seems so much more innocent and care free and yet it was only less then 20 years ago.

from a music/talent point of view, Debbie's the more talented. writes, produces, plays instruments, etc.

but then again, who really gives a damn. about that. it's the same sort of music, disposable dance-pop, and if you have to watch Britney do a show or Debbie, who are you going to pick? not ho-hum Debbie Gibson. Debbie's talented, but being "most musically talented teen dance pop artist" is a bit of a dubious distinction.

I did not even know she wrote her own stuff until I got hold of my older sisters collection a year ago. That does not matter to me either really, but I was shocked 2 c she infact did write her own stuff and 4 her age, she deserves props. Grown men can write pop but for a 16 year old to beat them at their own game (with "only in my dreams") is a feat worth recognising.

"only in my dreams" is a classic like "baby, one more time" yet wheres the respect? It is becuase the video was not sexy and that sucks.....

Guys want to take Debbie Gibson out for milk and apple pie. They want to take Britney to a hotel. Same with the music. Debbie's all chirpy and innocent - rah rah rah gang! while Britney's is more suggestive. Same story with the videos.

That doesn't make her music better. Just more sexual.

true, but just because Debbie wrote her own stuff doesn't make it better either.

Compared to Tiffany. wink

Seriously, it's too bad her talent didn't mature. She had a good knack for melody.

yeah I understand ur cynicism. I hated her stuff too, but I got enough pride to realize that despite their "cheesy/crap" labels, some of this music is alright. If not infact very good.

In some ways, Debbies early music is reminisant of early madonna.

She was a lot better then Tiffany, though she put out an underated and slept on ablum though called "new inside". That has some hot tracks.

don't get me wrong, i enjoy a lot of crap. i just think it's silly to be praising one over the other because she wrote her own crap.
