Performers with Too Many "Best of" Collections I'm talking "best of," "greatest hits," "number ones," etc. Who's got way too many of them?
One of my favorites, Donna Summer, has at least 8 major collections to her name (not including live releases), and a lot of these include the same shit!: On the Radio (1978) Walk Away (1980) The Dance Collection (1987) Donna Summer Anthology (1993) Endless Summer (1995) Greatest Hits (1998) Millenium Collection: The Best of Donna Summer (2003) Ultimate Collection (2003) Michael Jackson has had too many recently. His last 2 albums were greatest hit type releases. Hmmm...who else does?

I was in Circuit City today and they had 4 different Cyndi Lauper greatest hits CDs. Sony must really be milking her catalog. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

There are far too many Sheena Easton collections out there, try running an amazon.com search in popular music on her name. I found 14 CD's listed, including import-only (relative to the U.S.) titles, but excluding karaoke or various artists collections:
3 different "Greatest Hits" 2 editions of "Best of..." "Singles Collection" "Classic Masters" "Premium Gold Collection" "20 Great Love Songs" "Gold Collection" "Best Ballads" "10 Best Series" (Capitol) "Super Now Series" collection "World of..." Talk about milking someone's back catalog!! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

??? Record Label There are only 2 that she was actively involved in. 1992 G.H. and 2004 Ultimate Kylie. The others were all released by her record company (svengalis) that owned the rights to her recordings during her PWL years. Up until 2002 they were trying to cash in on her recordings. Even used a model (from chest down) to put on the cover of yet another greatest hits.

She didn't need a stand in; they used one becuase she wasn't involved in the release of yet another G.H. She was trying to get it stopped. Since she didn't want to cooperate this is what the end result was:

I was thumbing through the James Brown section, in my local record store, and was amazed at the number of Greatest Hits albums. [Edited 12/27/04 4:57am] Andy is a four letter word.

Morrissey has WAY too many compilations.
The Stone Roses as well. For a band that only released to proper albums, it makes me laugh how many damn CDs I have from them.

Although it should be said the last two greatest hit cds where just to get out of his contract early.

Michael Jackson
Kylie Minogue Many Motown acts, because Motown is CONSTANTLY redoing the tracklistings for anthologies and GH collections to include one or two unreleased items so people will buy them all over again. Diana Ross & The Supremes, for example, have 3 different 2-disc sets entitled "Anthology" - one from 1986, one from 1995 and one from 2001. And that constitutes maybe 1/10 of their total comiplation output.

I hate looking through five million Sinatra, Miles and Trane best-ofs. Some stores, all they have is three or four best0ofs - even if it's "best-of this era." For a lot of that, you have to go back to vinyl. When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. Regardless of the day, I'm glad you were born.

Not true. Motown has put out a few greatest hits of his pre-Off the Wall stuff.

His last 2 albums were greatest hit type releases. Hmmm...who else does? You also forgot... "The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer" (2003 US/2004 Europe) "Gold" (1/11/2005...a double disc set and it's a good one!) I also think that their are more low budget European collections. It kind of sucks that Donna has no real control over this and many artists are in the same position (must add Cher and Aersomith), excpet for I've noticed Madonna, who only has three very offical hits collections (and one isn't really a hits set, it's a ballads collection).
