I don't take Usher's sales away from him however, you can't deny that his singles are only huge number ones for one reason: Clear Channel. They have maybe thousands of stations and most of them are Top 40...and all of Top 40 is the damn same thing and unfornately, Disney, who is probably number two in owning radio stations, follows Clear Channels lead. Usher held the number one spot on the Billboard 100, which is based almost exclusively on radio play...and guess what? He didn't release a sell through (or retail) single. He didn't have to! Something tells me if the singles were based on singles, Usher probably wouldn't be bragging so damn much about his performance on the singles charts. Also, Tommy Mottola is not only Usher's manager but is also a part of Clear Channel...hmmmmm..... | |

THey don't own everything, but yes, they can control content (which they are not even supposed to). That has nothing to do with Usher or who is popular (although payola should be an FCC priority). Something tells me that radio stations that played Usher (which was like all of them) had very little to worry about when it came to the FCC. Now radio stations that played Janet.... | |
