For the House Cats - Whatever Happened to...

...Junior Vasquez? He was on a roll for a lot of the early to mid 90s, then sort of disappeared from the mainstream house scene (at least it seemed that way). I know some of this had to do with the closing of the Soundfactory, but whatever happened to him? He used to do everybody's mixes. I'd see his name as much as I would David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, and the other big boys of house.

I know there's been a couple remix compilations he's released. But not much else. He's in a field where it more of "producer" of the moment. On to the next new hot sound I guess. shrug
One of my favourite remixes of his was MADONNA's "Bedtime Story" dancing jig

Junior "vasquez" the white boy from philly who used a spanish last name to get into the business.. is TIIIIIRRRRRED..it didnt have anything to do with the closing of the factory. Gatien had to do with the closing of the factory.

there's just no room anymore for House dj's in NY trust me i know.. ive dj'd with Tony,Frankie,Louie,Armand,Sneak,Josh and there's no elbow room, being that the glorious mayor had found some law about Cabaret Liscenses,. and had all the major clubs shut down.whats next "No dancing in NY"?? u can check with the Dance Music Coalittion.

He's still around. Not as big as he used to be, but he's still mixing and DJing in the NYC dance scene. His latest "Earth" mixes are largely cool. He created some good mixes of Vivian Green's "Emotional Rollercoaster," Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent," Maroon 5's "This Love" and Nelly Furtado's "Powerless (Say What You Want)" -- check all of those mixes out.

hehe smile Thanks for the info. I remember hearing his real name once, and can't recall of the top of my head what it was (Dennis something??). I think he did some really excellent remixes, but some of his own stuff? barf Terrible!

Well, yeeeahhhh, you can say that.

He's definitely not making major noise anymore.

When I think of Vasquez, I think of those tired Madonna mixes on WKTU. OOPS!

I actually like those tired mixes he did for Madonna (unless the ones you're referring to are different than the ones he did from Bedtime Story).

Oh, no. WKTU has those *special* ultimix-sounding dance mixes with weird synths and bells and repetitious hooks. It's just BLAH!

There's a DMC remix of La Isla Bonita that is particularly bad. They did some sad shit.

They're still on the air in New York. I used to listen the station over the summer when I got dressed for work in the morning.

I remember when Prince's "Thieves In The Temple" 12" was first released, I thought Vasquez really messed it up.
