Chaka was at her most "Bohemian" during the Rufus years (especially when she performed at Wattstax).

LOL @ the "pits" comment.

With all this talk of "unshaven pits," I guess that makes Paula Cole a TRUE BOHEMIAN!

Anyone care to provide us with a picture?

omfg This is the second time I've done that! I keep confusing Rufus and Carla Thomas from that 1972 concert at the Los Angeles Coliseum (Wattstax) with the concert footage I saw of Rufus and Chaka at the L.A. Coliseum in the mid-'70s.

Pardon my brain fart.

CynicKill

Someone clarify this backstory:

When Chaka was a teenager her and her sister ran away from home. They came across the path of this Voodoo preistess who gave them new names, Chaka Kahn and Taka Boo.

Since you didn't specify an era, here are my picks from the "protest" singers of the '60s.

Janis Ian

Then...

(early days in the studio)

More current...

This tune says it all...
Society's Child - Janis Ian (from her debut LP recorded at 15 years old)

COME TO MY DOOR, BABY
FACE IS CLEAN AND SHINING BLACK AS NIGHT
MY MAMA WENT TO ANSWER
YOU KNOW THAT YOU LOOKED SO FINE
NOW I COULD UNDERSTAND THE TEARS & THE SHAME
SHE CALLED YOU BOY INSTEAD OF YOUR NAME
WHEN SHE WOULDN'T LET YOU INSIDE
WHEN SHE TURNED AND SAID
"BUT HONEY, HE'S NOT OUR KIND"

SHE SAYS I CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE, BABY
CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Richie Havens

Then...

(Woodstock)

More current...

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Arlo Guthrie

Then...

(Woodstock)

More current...

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Buffy Sainte-Marie
(wrote Universal Soldier, Until It's Time For You To Go, Up Where We Belong)

Then...

More current...

2002 pre-launch festivities of flight STS-113 at the Kennedy Space Center.
(This woman is over 60 in this picture and still looks incredible)

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Peter, Paul and Mary

Then...

More current...

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Their "bohemian" status should be obvious.

I see what you mean about the resemblance. nod

In certain shots...

...you can see that Tina has certain strong Native American features.

Regarding things that I post, it may have to do with the fact that i've just been on the planet a bit longer than you have.

(Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your perspective.) wink
