What Music Did You Buy or Receive for Christmas?

'Tis the season for gift cards and shopping.

I bought these CDs with trade-ins at the used wrecka stow:

Miles Davis and Quincy Jones -- Miles and Quincy Live At Montreux: I had my first listen today and it is stellar. The person who sold this was either crazy or broke!

John Coltrane -- Impressions: Ditto what I said above.

Here's what I was given:

Bix Beiderbecke -- Bix Lives! Vol. 2: A nice collection of tunes from an artist who deserved the hype he got by Ken Burns. I am listening to it right now.

Here's what I bought with my gift cards:

Cypress Hill -- Cypress Hill:One of the best hip-hop joints of the early 90's.

Radiohead -- OK Computer: I am listening to it in my car, and I think it deserves the hype on first listen. A trippy record indeed.

Modest Mouse -- Good News For People Who Love Bad News: I haven't checked it out yet, but I bought it on my sister's boyfriend's recommendation.

and

Monk Hughes -- A Tribute To Brother Weldon: My music in 2004 was defined by the discovery of Madlib. I expect this invazion to be on par with the rest of his brilliant stuff.

What did y'all get?

My best galpal in NYC bought me DFA's Compilation #2, which is three discs of kick-ass indie rawk/techno hybrid insanity. I love it to pieces, and the crazy part is, all the discs are fantastic and there's just too much of it for me to take in!!! I'm gonna be listening to this for a long time. nod

And Supa got me Alice Russell's Under the Munka Moon, which I'd never heard of until he sent it to me as part of my Secret Santa luvgift extravaganza. An amazing album by a woman with an equally amazing voice. nod

I received the new "Fantasia" album (didn't ask for it), which I believe is actually good.A good grown R&B album. Nothing silly like Destiny Child "loose my breathe/soldier" stuff. Also received the new Ray Ray album (R. Saadiq), Cameo Anthology and Earth Wind & Fire live DVD

I got a fabulous "Fruitcake" mix disc from Anx and a Residents compilation that he whipped up.

I bought myself this strange double disc version of Joy Division's "Les Bains Douches" and some Ultravox cd's.

Can't think of anything else right now.

Bought a TON of music for other people though. wink

I haven't bought anything since Christmas. My last music purchase was the Patsy Cline Definitive Collection at Wal-Mart on Christmas Eve. It's my third Patsy Cline comp and probably the last.

I have it too because everyone on this board was making it seem like album of the year. And it was alright, but What u waiting 4 is still the best track on the album. That pisses me off. Musicology is still a better album IMHO

I receieved:

Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B.

The Cure's Three Imaginary Boys reissue

and...

the best gifty ever....

For those of you who haven't seen this, it's a 4 CD Rhino Compilation. It comes in a pretty box with a sweet book. It has 80+ tracks pulled from catalogues of 80s alternative artists. I'm sure I have a lot of these tracks on something or the other. This is a GREAT compilation however and the CDs will be perfect to throw on at gatherings.
