Really love Mark Knopfler's approach to the guitar. Love Over Gold is probably my favorite album. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I love me some dire straits. His guitar playing is quite astonishing as he does not use a plectrum.
I love:- Tunnel of love, Skateaway, indutrial disease (the closest thing to rap Mark ever sang ), Brothers in arms, so far away, telegraph road (live), twisting by the pool (remix), portobello belle (live), My fave is "so far away" though. I love that song. Beutiful. The records production wise cannot be beat. Mark owes his vocal stylings to Bob Dylan though. Check the phrasing in particualr on "skateaway"! Pure Dylan!

Let's just say that similarities have been well documented. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Let's just say that similarities have been well documented. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm I got an album with both of them on. Marky Mark is on "slow train coming" but yet ain't on any other dylan album (is he?) Did they fall out? Also "private dancer" by Tina turner was a Mark knofelr song. Did he produce it too? Imagine him singing that? Sounds like a "making movies" outtake. Good song though.

I don't hear it, but I don't know skateaway Some of his vocal inflections are similar to earlier Dylan. (I think Dylan has changed they way he sings about 3 times.) Try the Blonde on Blonde era and once you've heard Love Over Gold you'll pick up on it. Knopfler produced Infidels. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I like his voice, though there can only be one Dylan!! And his guitar playing sounded a bit like JJ Cale too..It's the combination of these two elements in Dire Straits, that I used to like... Nowadays I only play their first:Down to the waterline,Southbound again,Lions,Wild west end, water of love...Yep,good one!

I bought Love Over Gold yesterday and can hear the Dylan influence all over it, especiall Telegraph Road. Not just in Knopfler's delivery but in the lyric writing too.
It's a bit too derivative for it's own sake, but I love that mellow guitar!

Any opinions on Knopfler's solo work?
