25th Anniversary 'Guitar World' Greatest Players Ever

P in 25th Anniversary Issue Guitar World

Although Prince is not included among the 5 greatest guitar players of the past 25 years as voted by readers, he came in second among most underrated guitar players. He garnered 29%, just 2% behind AC/DC's Malcolm Young and well ahead of the other three "underrated" guitar players. I think that is impressive when you consider the bulk of Guitar World's readership are not likely to be Prince fans. At least they recognize! headbang

Here's a thought, would Prince have been included in the top 5 of the past 25 years if he had really concentrated on mostly guitar-oriented music instead of being so diverse? What do you think? hmmm

As a side note, the same issue of GW features an article on Dimebag Darrell, who was recently shot dead on stage. What a shame. That could have been Prince or any one of our musical heroes. confused

I don't think it's a problem with being diverse. It's just that his virtuosity on the instrument is (relatively) rarely exhibited on his records. Even on the guitar/rock songs.

Well, that and the fact that he usually doesn't cut loose like he CAN until he hits the stage.

But ... I'm kinda polled out with all these lists. sigh

All those other people on these lists generally are ONLY guitar players. What is so awesome about P is that its just one facet of his ability.
