Anybody remember this early 70's dancefloor classic: "Soul Makossa"

African artist Manu Dibango's cut, "Soul Makossa", became a hit when New York DJ Frankie Crocker started spinning this on the air 1973, and within 2 weeks of its US debut, it sold over 200,000 copies. Younger music fans may recognize it as the chant Michael Jackson used for the breakdown in "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin" (Dibango actually considered a lawsuit because it was used without his permission , but he was eventually compensated by Jackson...)

HELL YEAH!!!!! This is probably my absolute favorite jam from the 1970s! This song was used as the original theme song for a local televison dance show in my area in the 1970s and 1980s called "Black Gold" before they made their own theme song. Many a ass has shaked off that song, including my own! lol

Yep. I was just getting ready to mention that a latter version of this song was done in reggae but I see you beat Legs to the punch. I like this version also.

Ask Jamie Fox. He coined the named J-Ho during one of his specials on HBO and it kinda stuck with her.

It's a matter of opinion and depends who you ask. Opinions are assholes and everyone has one including Jamie Fox.

Whose opinion are you refering? America is made on different opinions. If all of you had the same opinions then I would say that you are some boring pitiful motherfuckers. I am all for those who challenge the status qua. Pop stars are not part of that movement that challenge the status qua.
